one potential game plan for a touchy situation?

Man ... what a touchy situation.

    Here's one possible gameplan.

Get her to get herself a copy of "The Agencies, What You Need to Know" over at Samuel French by Acting World Publications ($10 or so). I think that she will certainly recognize that 90.0% of all worthwhile modeling work goes through agencies such as that, along with names that everybody immediately recognizes, such as Elite, and Ford, and Welhelmina.

It's not going to look to good to her when her "guy" is not listed, nor anybody associated with her guy in any verifiable way. There should be all sorts of prohibitions, and advisements in the book that legitimate agents and managers do not take money from their clients up front, but rather ONLY make money if the client makes money.

But that's not it. Simply tell her that there is not a single agency in the book (and that's all of them) who take money from their clients up front. Not $300 dollars, not 300 cents. And for modeling, many of the agencies have regular calls. Ask her, would she not at least like to have her daughter seen by a few *respected* agencies that would never in 100 years consider requesting money from her, before she tosses $300 to some guy who is not even listed? Even some modeling agencies that are not listed in the book, have provisions for open calls, and a simple phone call to the agencies will reveal this. The people working for top agencies that do make provisions for open calls sift through people face-to-face in about 5-15 seconds.

Surely, given the vast demand out there for such a thing, I am sure that there must be lists of "anybody who's anybody" as far as model agent/managers are concerned.

The sad truth of the matter is that I don't think that there is necessarily a thing in the world you can do to save somebody from themselves when they've got money to burn and have a desire to listen to those who tell them what they want to hear.

I am simply speculating to get the conversation started. I know that there are several people who commonly read these boards with about 100 times as much knowledge as I have regarding the situation, and hopefully, they will have better information, and alternative/better gameplans to try to -- unfortunately, save your sister from herself.

Looking forward to such posts. Hopefully, one of P.T. Barnums ancestors is now lurking, and will be able to chime in.

    Best,
