To Burkett or Not To Burkett ... that is the question. Wednesday, 08-Jul-98 19:38:14
Actually .... the real question is what to do with my old agent. This is an UPDATE from CASTNET post, but most of my friends are here. =) Like Sterling and Larry. =) Anyway, I finally went in to meet with the Burkett Talent Agency in Mission Viejo. I live between MV and Hollywood so as far as going down there ... it's about the same either direction, so the location of the agency is not a concern ... they also have an L.A. office. Anyway, after doing a cold reading audition and doing a monologue off the top of my head ... that I didn't know they were going to ask for and had NO time to prepare (Scary ... scary), they decided they wanted to "give it a go". Since I'm non-union, there is no real contract involved, but she said she would only take me on if she also represented me commercially as well. (sigh) She also said she would submit me like crazy for a few months and if things took off they would keep me ... if not then, who knows what will happen. Then I've lost my old agent and I don't have a new agent. I think I'm willing to take the risk. They seem really nice over there, but I knew this would happen. I was expecting them to only want to take me on if I went with them commercially also. So if I go with them, I have to leave my old agent. This will be the first agent I have ever left to go to another agent. It feels like such a betrayal. I was hoping to be able to stay with my current agent commercially just so I would have 2 agents working for me, but they are pretty adamant about not taking me at all unless for commercial and then they would submit me for other categories as well including industrials, print, theatrical. So ... I guess I don't really have a choice. My old agent hasn't sent me out since April and before that since the end of February. They are currently representing me both commercially and theatrically, but they are mainly a commercial agent. I guess I'm just not eager to face the phone call. So any advice for me before I call my old agent?? I'd love to hear from you. Sorry for the rambling. Susan Susan |
