Hell, Susan, you're not rambling. Now STERLING rambles (but it has some strange attraction). The only advice I can give you is send them a polite but firm letter saying goodbye. This way there can be no problem later as to what was said, by whom, and when. Also, don't think I didn't see that thread earlier where you were flirting with Howard Fine's minions.
