Musical Theatre audition Friday, 10-Jul-98 12:22:02
I have done some musical theatre auditions before, but never as a kid. It seems rules change for kids sometimes. Usually, they only require that you sing 16 bars, that's about a verse and chorus for most songs. He doesn't need to prepare the whole song, just perfect one verse and chorus. Pick the verse that best suits him. He can sing any song he wants .... sometimes they specifically say to sing a song from the show, but if they don't, it is just any uptempo song from another musical. I would recommend that he sings a song from a musical, because those are songs that are usually sung by a character. If it is just any song like "Old MacDonald" as a stupid example ... it's not a song that's sung from a character. As far as dancing goes, I'm not sure what the rule is for kids. They mainly want to hear the sound of your voice and see your expression and life you can bring to the song. Not necessarily dancing. That's usually a seperate audition at the callbacks if the show requires dancing. Basically, sing the song that shows you off the best. The one that makes your voice soar. Also, be prepared to sing from the show too ... in some cases, they will have you sing from the show at the audition after you sing your song. But they probably won't do this with kids. Good luck. Aladdin sounds like fun. Susan Susan |
