Just Booked 110 episodes of a new series, sans agent Sunday, 12-Jul-98 17:15:35
I'm yet further self-promoting, at Sterling's behest, myself here to inform any who care to know that I've just finished shooting the first 4 of 110 episodes of "Show Me the Funny" for Fox Family Channel. Next week, we up the grueling pace to 16 episodes per week! We go on the air on Aug. 17th. It's a show very much like "America's Funniest Videos", with Stephanie Miller hosting, and yours truly sidekicking. I play "Silent Phil" the proprietor of the coffee bar where the show is set. Yes, I'm a professional mugger now. Apparently, one of the producers saw me on a wrap-around sketch comedy show I did for TROMA that still plays in Europe occasionally, mentioned it to her cousin (who works at Central Casting -- yup, I did the background thing for a month when I was broke) who called me and told me that they were looking for a sidekick/straight man to Stephanie. Was I interested? Sure. within 72 hours of that call, I was on the set shooting. I have no lines for now, but the writers say that I will have once the silent gag is milked to the bone...probably after 40 shows. The money is truly apalling, the hours are long, I still need my night job, I need now to join yet another union, but it's work, and a chance for better things later.
