AutoCam

General information

AutoCam automatically creates ReMaic screenplays for demos recorded for a certain level based on a data file for that level. If you want to add a camera to your demos but you don't have the time or patience to make a ReMaic screenplay, try AutoCam.

The current version is 1.32 - download it. The text file inside contains usage instructions and a sample file for DM4. You also need ReMaic by Anthony Bailey which requires Perl to run, another program you will have to download if you don't have it already. Since lots of people still couldn't figure out where to get Perl, here's a link to a win95 port which should work for you.

Important: if AutoCam doesn't work properly on your computer (runtime errors, etc..), download this fix and try one of the executables in it. Thanks to everyone who told me of this problem and helped fix it, and Martin Goedtke who found an alternative solution - using a slowdown program.

Helpful additions to AutoCam

If you want to get rid of the need to type the coordinates yourself into the ACM file, get ConACM which converts Quake log files to ACM files - believe me, it makes your life easier! Thanks to Neil Helsley for the idea. The current version is 1.01.

If you want to make ACM files from within a level editor instead of from within Quake (it's much easier and faster that way), get AutoMAP by Andrew Smith which lets you do that. The current version is 1.5.

If you find it a bit slow to take coordinates using the command edict 1, try this simple patch, which insane made for AutoCam (thanks!) which makes it a lot faster to take coordinates.

If you need some help with making ACM files the standard way with the coords patch, get this demo, it shows how to make ACM files, how to define areas and everything else involved with making ACM files.

ConACM tutorial demo - if you need some help with making ACM files the newer way, using a console log and ConACM, get this demo, which shows how the whole process is done. It's also recommended that you download the first help demo if you haven't watched it yet.

Examples

I used AutoCam to make a camera version of a sample demo I recorded on DM4. You can download the zip containing the original demo and the refilmed version. I also made an example demo against 4 skill 0 reapers (I wanted to have some easy fun) with projectile tracking (and /L0.65), here's the second example.

If you have made any cool demos with AutoCam that you'd like me to put here please send them to me and I'll post them here.

Level data files

Here you can get all the AutoCam level data files that I know of. If you made any, please send them to me.
