SECOND PLACE AND CLOSING

Night racing at the old Hayward Speedway, 1974. We all called it the "Spillway" because it was very short and tight. One false move and you would spill. It was shaped like a kidney bean so the only time you were straight up and down was over the jump, all the rest of the time you were turning. Hayward was a rhythm track. Left, right, left, jump. Left, right, left, jump. Over and over, round and round. Once you got the rhythm of it you could really fly.
