A little while after my father died in '83 mom told Sis and I to come down and go through his things with an eye towards whatever we might want to keep for ourselves; everything else was going to the garage sale as she was preparing to move into a mobile-home park. Among his things I discovered a ten-year-old Minolta 35mm SLR camera kit complete with bag, lenses, filters etc. and a fairly extensive library on the subject of photography. Having fooled around with photography as a hobby since high school it didn't take long for me to become deeply engrossed in the books. Next thing you know I'm down in the garage hammering and sawing away like a madman building a darkroom.
Nowadays I get paid for some of my photographic work but I still have the hobbyist attitude I started out with. So sometimes I'll think of some simple theme like seascapes, landscapes, or architecture, or some "event" will come to town like a rodeo, a car race, or an air-show, and I'll grab my camera bag and a few rolls of black & white film and off I'll go, shooting everything in sight. For me, however, the real fun doesn't start until I get home with the film and into the darkroom. Then I'm in my element. Alone, totally immersed in a techno/creative process.
What follows are a few of the results of that process. I hope you enjoy seeing them as much as I did creating them. I'll be replacing these photos with others from time-to-time so check back in once in awhile to see what's new.
