WOW! 2 in a Row!

Eagles stomp Bears 20-16

Road woes end; Pederson throws long!

The Eagles in the past few years have come up stale and short after big wins against the Dallas Cowboys. This team came out full of energy this week. However, it was costly penalties by the Bears and turnovers that helped the Eagles to victory. The second half was poor until they began to hand the ball off to Duce Staley who carried the team on his shoulders to end the game. Stay tuned for the highlights and the many lowlights here on another HammRadio Eagles Game Day Report.

Andy Reid Watch

Every week we will track Coach Reids progress as a first year coach.

Coach Andy Reid Well Reid was right. Doug Pederson can lead this team to victories. The second half play was a little weak. And the red zone play calling leaves a little to be desired. I'd like to see some Duce sweeps to see if this guy can get into the end zone. Because the team still looks shaky. But Reid is looking more and more like a genius.

HOAGIES -- Stars of the Game

  1. RB - Duce Staley -- 23 rushes for 101 yards. No TDs yet. They have to start giving this guy the ball in the Red Zone. The next superstar in this league.
  2. QB - Doug Pederson (first half) --
  3. CB - Troy Vincent -- Another interception. And the receivers were nearly invisible. Raghib Ismail did get 7 catches for 88 yards but that is merely yeoman work.

KRIMPETS -- Soft players of the Game.

  1. P - Sean Landetta -- 8 punts for a 45.5 average. But it was his first half punts that had low hang time and short that gave the Cowboys decent field position.
  2. LG Doug Brzenski -- Well a few weeks ago we told you to watch this guy. And we did and he could have cost the Eagles the game with his hold on Duce Staley's called back touchdown catch. The Eagles fortunately came back to hit a field go to close the gap to 10-6.
  3. Eagles Receivers -- Drop Drop Drop. Too many dropped balls. Is it Pederson's fault? Not anymore. If you're open and the ball is there you have to catch the darn thing.

Keep an Eye on'em:

CB -- Al Harris -- No penalties and had good coverage at the end of the game. If we can reign in his emotional (and costly penalties) play he will add to the depth of the team.

Numerology-- Key Stats

  1. 1 first half First Down. 11 in the Second. Pederson came through with the big TD pass.
  2. The fourth quarter offensive TD was the first one in 18 quarters. That's 4 and a half games.
  3. Turnovers. 3 Takeaways. Plus 2 on the day. If you win the takeaway column. You're going to win games.

Key Plays

  1. Mamula's fourth quarter sack changed the flavor of the game.
  2. Brzenski's hold actually allowed the Eagles to put 3 points on the board and waste another minute of the game.
  3. Emmit Smiths first quarter fumble at the Eagles three. If Dallas scores there the game goes on to be a blow out. Instead, despite not scoring any points and actually turning into a field goal for Dallas with a 3 and out and a terrible punt, the fumble saved the game.
