Bakerow
Village of approximately 100 people located on the north coast of the Duchy of Braeburg. This village is very new having only been settled in the last ten years.
Berm, Barony of
Fief, population 7000 of Baron Davisa of Berm, vassal to the Count of Helvet. The Barony produces mcuh of the countries wool, and mutton. It lies on Davon's Peninsula, and consists of the city of Davon's Berm, the villages of Bermville and Orc's Revenge, and their associated lands.
Bermville
Village in the Barony of Berm. Ancient seat of the Imperial Court which has lay in ruins for centuries. The village (population 120) ekes out a precarious existence farming sheep which produce wool and mutton for the Kingdom.
Brae
The city of Brae is a walled city with a population of approximately 5,000. It is the ruling seat of the Duke of Braeburg (at present, Duke Michel), and maintains a small fleet.
Braeburg Castle
Built between 880 and 925 DD, this castle was built to defend the Duchy of Braeburg from Helgravian aggression. It is now the property of King Gareth II.
Braeburg, Duchy of
Region of northern Helgraad, which includes the city of Brae, the town of Selmia, and the village of Ferda. The entire population is about 10000. The small village of Bakerow has lately begun to develop on the north coast. The Duchy is ruled by His Grace, The Duke Michel, a vassal to the King, and Overlord of Yungia, from his ancestral seat of Brae.
Braeburg Forest
Remnant Forest which straddles the border between the Duchy of Braeburg, and the Crown Lands.
Buvia, Free State of
Independent country, with a population of about 10,000 people ruled from Freeport, by the Council of Captains.
Caledon, Barony of
Western fief (population 4000) of Caledon Island, ruled by Baron Edward Ursis from the city of Caledonia. This is the most recent addition to the Kingdom, having only been conquered 30 years ago, and is a vassal state of the King. The people of this Barony are of different cultural stock and worship their own gods, and have their own traditions. Music is very high on this list, and bards are accorded great respect within its borders. Besides Caledonia, the only significant settlement is Hargile.
Caledon Island
Island, part of the Kingdom of Helgraad, comprising two Baronies - Caledon and Ursis. Also called Bear Island, because of its supposed resemblance to a bear.
Caledonia
City, and capital of the Barony of Caledon. This city has a population of about 3000, and is rather run down. The only major building is the 'College Ab Hura' which is virtually a University of the Barding art.
Cranton
City located in the Crown Lands. At the intersection of six roads, this city with a population of 3,500 is not the trade centre one would expect. This is due to the fact that it has often been in dispute and has even been under Orcish control at times. A garrison of 500 men is maintained by the King to protect the city from Orcish attack originating in nearby Cranton Wood. Cranton manufactures most of the weapons and other metal implements used by the people of Helgraad. Cranton is ruled by Sir Benjal Sark, on behalf of the King.
Cranton Wood
Large wood located in the Crown Lands. This wood has never been explored by humans and is widely believed to contain an Orcish city by many people. Whether this is true or not, it is certain that the wood does contain a number of orcs, and was near the centre of an Orcish nation several centuries ago (c 100 DD - 542 DD).
Crown Lands, The
Largest individual fief of Helgraad, formerly the County of Helgravia, these land consisting of the cities of Helgravia, Yang and Cranton, as well as the town of Port Green, and the villages of Eagle Rock, Samelada, Howton, Helgford and Friko, are in the direct rule of the King (at present His Majesty King Gareth II, Count of Helgravia. Two castles, Yangthorn and Helgravia, as well as the southernmost Sentinel are also within the borders of this demesne. The southern part of Braeburg Forest, all of Cranton Wood and the Helg Mountains are also contained within its borders. The major crops of the Crown Lands include both wheat and corn. Mining, primarily of iron and silver occurs in the mountains. The entire population of the fief amounts to nearly 25,000 people.
Dalia
A tiny village of about 40 people. It is only significant because it is the home of Jandor Starbright, the most powerful wizard known in the Kingdom of Helgraad. He is a recluse and very little is known of him.
Davon's Berm
Oldest known human settlement (founded 521 AI, 13 years before the death of Davon). This city of 3500 people shows its age. It is built almost entirely of stone, rather than the normal wood, although its ancients stone wall has fallen into ruins. The Imperial Governors Palace lies in ruins atop a peak to the south of the city, overlooking the sea. This city is known for its fine woollen products, and stoneworking skills. It is the ancestral seat and capital of the Baron of Berm.
Eagle Rock
A village of approximately 400 people just south of Cranton Woods. One of the few places in the kingdom where Orcs are tolerated, if not welcomed, it is nonetheless subjected to regular orc attacks out of the Wood. It has also been regularly in the past subjected to attacks by the Freeport Marauders, although these are on the decline. These facts have led to the people of this village having a general right to bear short swords, unlike the general people of the kingdom.
Ferda
A large village (population 200) on the south west coast of the Duchy of Braeburg. Approximately 10% of its population are Elvish.
Friko
Village in the Crown Lands. It is a small farming community which keeps Braeburg Castle supplied with necessary foodstuffs.
God's Landing
By tradition this stone circle marks the site of the first landing of the Gods on the Island. The circle predates the first know human inhabitants, and some believe it may have been built by the orcs (although this theory is disputed). The circle has been the site of the coronation of each of the Kings of Helgraad.
Grendle Point
Originally a ship building centre it has lost importance as the area became devoid of wood. The only major industry of this coastal city of 3000 people is chalk from its chalk lined cliffs. The city is the seat of the Baron of Grendle Point. A garrison of approximately 500 soldiers lives in this town which is used to supply the northernmost of the sentinels.
Grendle Point, Barony of
The Barony of Grendle Point, is a direct vassal fief of the King. The present Baron is Baron Stold Grendle, who claims ancestry back to the almost legendary Admiral Grendle. Most of the barony is wheat and dairy farms among a few remnant forests.
Hargile
Village (population 300) in the Barony of Caledon. This village is believed by many to be the centre of a Caledonian Revolution, which seeks to liberate the island from Helgraad's rule.
Helg Mountains
Mountain chain in central Helgraad. These mountains are the only significant peaks on the mainland. They are the sites of mines (mostly iron and silver, but with a few other metals available). The Helg River has its source in these mountains.
Helg River
River running from the Helg Mountains to the Great Eastern Bay in the Crown Lands. The river is a fairly important trade route, now diminished by the recent construction of a good road alongside it. The city of Helgravia lies at its mouth, with the village of Helgford along its northern bank.
Helgford
Small village (population 150) in the Helg Mountains. It acts as a base for the miners where they can purchase their supplies, and also lies on the Yang to Helgravia trade route.
Helgravia
Walled city, capital of the Crown Lands, and of the Kingdom of Helgraad, ancestral seat of the King of Helgraad. Helgravia is the largest city of the Kingdom of Helgraad with a population of about 10,000. It contains Temples to all the major gods and is the centre for the Helgravian army with almost 2000 men under arms. It is a major trading centre.
Helgravia Castle
Large stone castle located about five miles south of the city of Helgravia. This is the palace of the King of Helgravia, and also houses the training school of the Royal Knights. The castle is the largest building in Helgraad. It was built between 877 and 927 DD, but is constantly being upgraded.

Helvet, County of
Region ruled by Count Edmond, Count of Helvet, a vassal Lord to the King. This region has a total population of about 10,000, mainly centred at the city of Helvetica, and the town of Vanburn, with an army garrison at the village of Ses.
Helvetica
Walled city, capital of the County of Helvet. This city has a population of about 6,000 with the highest proportion of Elves (nearly 20%) of any city in Helgraad. Because of this large Elvish population, this city is far more cosmopolitan than most other settlements.
Holy Maddle
Village of about 300 with a severe distaste for the 'orkies' as they call Orcs. No orc may enter the village on pain of instant death by burning. (In other settlements this is just a tradition. Here it is institutionalised). Unfortunately the local industry is almost solely based on Maddle, a very powerful rotgut whisky. Under its influence villagers have been known to mistake almost anything for an orc. Fortunately, they were normally unable to light the bonfire.
Howton
A village of 250 people located in the swamp neat Port Green. It is the base for the garrison of the southern Sentinel, and approximately 100 soldiers are billeted here.
Julvia
Port village, population 500 in the Barony of Ursis. This village is gradually being built into a port for the Royal Fleet. It is under the command of Captain Henry Samlep, of the Royal Navy, and has a garrison of approximately 60 sailors, and 40 soldiers.
Northing
Village of about 300 people located in the Barony of Yungia. It is ruled by Sirra Anne Trodia on behalf of the Baron of Yungia. It's major industry is wheat farming, and it is a trading centre for the Badian Peninsula. It is also the site of the islands major temple to the god Kriokos.
Nusturm
City of approximately 1,600 inhabitants located on the west coast of the Kingdom of Helgraad. It is the ruling seat of Baroness Greta Justica of Nusturm. The city produces fine silver jewellery in addition to more mundane trade items.
Nusturm, Barony of
The Barony of Nusturm consists of the settlements and lands of Nusturm, Dalia, and Vidwerp. The entire Barony has a population of about 5,000 people.
Nuvis
City of about 1,200 people located on Nuvis Bay. Capital and ruling seat of the Barony of Nuvis. This city is one of the oldest intact cities (founded 37 DD) surviving from the days of the Empire. The city maintains a small fishing fleet, and is the point of call for the fisher people of the Occident Islands. A University to be a centre of learning is being built at Nuvis, based around the remnants of the ancient Imperial Library.
Nuvis, Barony of
Fief ruled by Baron Namid Selk, direct vassal to the King. Nuvis consist of only two significant settlements - the city of Nuvis, and the village of Trica. Most of the farms of Nuvis are devoted to the growing of fodder for the rest of the Kingdom, with the salt mines near Trica, the only other industry. The total population of Nuvis is about 4000.
Orc's Revenge
Village of about 300 people located in the Barony of Berm. This village was built on the site of the Battle of Helvet Field (101 DD), which marked the southernmost point of the Orcish advance. The village is primarily a farming community, but a mineral spring nearby, coupled with the warmer climate of Davon's Peninsula is making it popular with the nobility and gentry as a place for holidays.
Port Green
A town of 800 people located on the Great Eastern Bay. This is the base for the Royal Fleet, and its entire function is to maintain the fleet. It is ruled by Admiral Prince Garis, the younger brother of the King, on behalf of the King.
Samelada
A village of about 300 people in the Crown Lands. The only industry is this village is cotton growing and weaving. The people of Samelada are by tradition allowed to bear short swords to protect them from Marauder raids, but such raids are now uncommon.
Selmia
Town (population 600) in central Braeburg. It is a major trading community, and each year hosts the Selmian Festival on Midsummer's Day. This festival marks the Feast of Davon, and for a week either side of the event Selmia's population swells to between 2000 and 3000. Selmia is ruled by Sir Harald Wembley on behalf of the Duke of Braeburg.
Sentinels, The
Two towers, built in 870 DD which guard the entrance to the Great Eastern Bay. These towers serve as light houses, and are manned at any one time by at least 50 men each. They are equipped with catapults. A small war galley is attached to each Sentinel, which go out to meet unidentified ships.
Ses
Garrison village in the County of Helvet. An army garrison of about 250 soldiers is based here. In the near future work is to begin on Cranton Castle which will become their base.
Stokes Keep
Stone Keep in the Barony of Ursis, near the border with Caledon. This Keep was built to defend Ursis from invasion in 920 DD, but is now being turned into a school for Noble sons to be educated.
Trica
Village of about 500 people located in the Barony of Nuvis. It is ruled by Sirra Penelope Frandle on behalf of Lord Selk of Nuvis. The village is surrounded by salt mines on all sides and these are its major industry.
Ursis
City of 1000 people and capital of the Barony of Ursis. This city is well known for its horses, and its farriers and smiths.
Ursis, Barony of
Fief, ruled by Baron Victor Ursis, vassal to the King. This fief has a population of only about 3000 people, and its primary industry in brewing, and horses. Because of its cultural diversity from mainland Helgraad, the worship of the old gods is normal here.
Vanburn
Town of about 900 people in the central part of the County of Helvet. This town is renowned for its fine wine grown in the vineyards around the county. It is ruled by Sir Nikola of Davon, High Priest of the God Davon, and Royal Knight. The lands major temple to Davon is located here.
Vidwerp
Farming village (population 300) of the Barony of Nusturm. This village is renowned as a site of magical anomalies. Magic is extremely unreliable in this region.
Yang
City of about 4,000 people located in the Crown Lands. Once the largest city of the Kingdom of Great Yang, it was almost totally destroyed in 929 DD. The sole reason for its rapid rise from destruction is its location at the crossroad of four major trade routes, those that run between, Brae, Nuvis, Helgravia, and Cranton. It is therefore the terminus of most of the wealth of Helgraad. The city is the richest and cleanest of all Helgraad's major settlements, and is the primary reason for the Kings wealth (it is part of his fief). The city is rule by Sir Jethro Yang, on behalf of the King. Sir Jethro is known to have the ambition of ruling his own fief, based from Yang. He seeks to ingratiate himself to the king in order to achieve this aim. Preparations are being made to encircle the city with a defensive wall in the near future.
Yangthorn Castle
Stone castle, located in the Crown Lands, on the border with the Barony of Nuvis. This large stone castle, the oldest in Helgraad (built by 132 DD), has never fallen in battle. The castle is the direct property of the King of Helgraad, who maintains a 200 strong garrison here.
Yungia
City and capital of the Barony of Yungia. Yungia is a very old city and may have been built by the Orcs over 1,000 years ago. It is the ruling seat of the Baron of Yungia. Its main industry is fishing.

The Barony of Yungia lies on the Badian Peninsula. It is ruled by Baron Stefan of Yungia, from his seat at Yungia. Baron Stefan is a vassal to the Duke of Braeburg. The Barony has a population of approximately 4000.
