The Man in the Iron Mask Pictures, News and Links

I just saw TMITIM! I thought it was fantastic! Read my review below!

  • Wow, it was EXCELLENT (excuse my Bill and Ted's expression)! I was so surprised at the movie as I thought it was going to be sort of corny as Leonardo DiCaprio as the "sun king" and Gerard Depardieu, Jeremy Irons and John Malcovich as the Three Musketeers (and I should say AGING Musketeers). Gabriel Bryne was amazing and he was so believeable in his role! Perfect casting for the whole crew!
The strength of the movie is its story. Alexander Dumas wrote a swashbuckling sequel to TTM (The Three Musketeers) and Randall Wallace, who wrote Braveheart, adapted the novel to a story that fit the silver screen majestically. At the end, so many times I thought it was the going to end...but Dumas tricks you..and you are sitting at the edge of your seat wondering what is going to happen to the predicament of the King and the Musketeers.
Well, many of you only want to hear about the performance of the SEXIEST MAN ALIVE (1998--please PEOPLE). I found myself giggling at the lines and actions of his role on screen. For example, he dropped a little glass and its contents poured out onto his lap. DiCaprio was believable as characters who were on the oposite end of the spectrum of life as one was a rich spendthrift king while the other was locked in jail with an iron mask covering his face. From BBD and Titanic to TMITIM, DiCaprio has shown his well-rounded acting abilities.
Gerard Depardieu was the comic relief during the movie. Depardieu played the wanton Porthos, who was afixated on women's breasts.
    sorry--I didn't finish it!

  • I found my tape of Leo on Entertainment tonight from March something 1997 and they are interviewing him about his role in Man in The Iron Mask. I remembered thinking how scary it was, he had longer hair than I did, and he was still CUTE. Unbelievable!! I thought the movie was okay, no where near romeo and juliet, better than this boy's life, worse than Titanic. Christine was in no way beautiful, and boy, are those musketeers getting old! My favorite quote from Leo from that ET interview was "Yeah, its hard, i mean, I"m not used to dealing with all this damn hair!"

  • Here in Italy this movie it's a big success, only second to Titanic - the unsinkable in the real sense of the world!

I've seen MITIM thrice until now; I've found the script and the lines almost absurd... But, hey, Leonardo is Leonardo as ever and more than ever. He is simply great and his perfomance is splendid - and I'm litterally ipnotized by the scenes when Louis and Philippe are together. I haven't understand where the trick is...:) I love in a particular way the scene, during the escape from the castle, where Louis is gaged and under the menace of John Malkovich, and Leonardo's eyes are full of rage, perfid and shining like diamonds.

  • Well...The Man In the Iron Mask opened in Australia yesterday and I saw it! I am compleatley crazilly uncontrollebly obsessed when it comes to loving Leo.D, but after seeing TMITIM, I was more in love with him...and more shocked with him! I think Leo played a great King Louis, he had some pretty cool lines in that role...and his mean side really did show which is good. I also adored him as Phillipe, We all know he's cute...but in that role he was the cutest he can be, I mean acting wise, not look wise. The cast in the movie was brilliant, The only cast member I was dissapointed in was John Malcovich...he kinda stood out from the rest of them, the accent, his style...I think he could of put more into his role. I think Judith Godreche played Christine very well, I felt sorry for her. All the cast members in this film did quite well, but I am pretty sure Leo flew through this role. As good as TMITIM and Titanic are, My fave Leo movie will always be Romeo & Juliet- call me boring but its the truth!!! My rating for The Man in the Iron mask is 4 stars out of 5. HAIL KING LEO!

  • Just to start off, I would like to say I AM a huge fan of Leonardo DiCaprio, and I think he's a phenominal actor. I love his movies, and he deserves all the attention he's getting right now...BUT...I'm beginning to think I was the only fan who really didn't like his newest film, "The Man in the Iron Mask." I saw the movie last night, and was completely disappointed. Leo's performances as King Louis XIV and his fictional twin brother, Phillipe were equally terrific, and nothing less than what we would expect from someone such as himself, but the movie itself...well that was another story. Through the entire first half of the film, it was just ridiculous. Questions such as "Why would such great actors do a film like this?" and "What was Randall Wallace (the director) thinking?" kept going through my head. The story itself is a classic of course, and wonderful, but the way it was played out just seemed to play out as one big joke until about an hour into the movie. The lead actors were all amazing as usual (With the exception of Judith Godreche who played Christine...another question that went through my mind was why in the world she was cast), but it wasn't enough to bring the movie to an excellent, or really even a great level. Just my opinions, but looking back, the movie was interesting, and I suppose that's all the purpose of it really was.

  • Did you ever in a million years think that you would go and see a movie about the three mustketeers? Well, I didn't. So when I walked into the movie theatre I was not expecting anything great, except for Leo times two. Boy was I wrong. It was actually a good movie. I loved it! It had everything. Some parts mad me laugh , some made me cry , and some made me angry. I thought that all of the cast did an outstanding job and that this is going to be a big suprise to a lot of people. So if right now you are thinking no way , just go and I will bet that you will love it as much as I did! Please remember just because Leo is in it does not mean that is anywhere close to the Titanic. So do not go in trying to compare the two films becuase you could never do that. Titanic is the best movie ever made!
    Overall Rating: ****

  • I went to see TMITIM on the 13th and thought it was wonderful. It was much better than I expected. At first, I thought it would be just a boring history film and I only went to see if because of Leo. I was pleasantly surprised. This was not another Leo hunkfest. There was a lot going on. The storyline was great and it was action-packed and excitment-filled all through. I really enjoyed the musketeers' performances. They were fantastic. They each had their own character.I thought Gabriel Byrne was exceptionally good and Gerard Depardieu was hilarious. I agree that the critics shouldn't have slam it so quickly. I caught Siskel and Ebert on TV talking about TMITIM after I came back from watching the movie and they made it sound so terrible. They gave it 2 thumbs down. Finally, I think TMITIM is a great movie and everyone should go see it.

    • I read the book by Mr . Dumas and went to the movie very excited. Let me first say the movie is nothing like the book, but that isnt neccisaly bad.
The thing about the book that i didnt like was the ending, the movie had a much better ending. In the book Christine was La Valliree , she wasnt very likeable. In the movie i felt deeply sorry for her and the fate that she meant. Leonardo did a good job with his two roles. I really hated him (King Loui) , i wanted to kick his butt. My favorite scence with philpee was when the guards were grabbing at Christine and he told them to leave her alone. Then he told her he would make up for whatever wrong he had done to her( even though he hadnt done anything.) Even though Leo gave fine perfomances in this film i can help but feel his supporting actors outshined him.
The supporting cast in this movie were great. The muskateers were awsome! The other supporting charecters like the queen mother , Christine, and even Raul were great. The casting director should give themselves a pat on the back.
The only thing wrong with the movie was at some points it was very predictable. I firgued out the father thing in like the first half hour.
My fav parts------- When Christine confronts loui(or should i say philpee). When Porthos tried to hang himself(that cracked me up). The charge at the end. I felt like haveing a good sword fight at the end of this movie. My score 3 stars out of 4!

  • I thought the movie was great! I didn't think the time period would interest me and I had no clue what it was going to be about-(the story line) but I wanted to see it bc. of Leo.. but I'm glad I went bc. not only did Leo do a really good job but the whole cast did!! I thought it might be somewhat boring- but I didn;t lose interest or get bored at all!!!! It is really a remarkable movie that was well done and worth seeing!!!!! So everyone see it!!

  • I saw Leo's new film and loved it. I am so mad at the critics for slamming this movie. The story was wonderful and the actors were brilliant. Although I read Dumas' book and the movie does not follow the book at all. It is much better than Dumas' interpretation. So, I guess the credit goes to whoever wrote the screenplay. I hope this movie doesn't become a Leo-lover movie. He was very good, but there is so much more to this movie. You don't have to love Leonardo to enjoy it. Let's all voice our enjoyment of this film, so the critics can't throw their weight around and convince everyone not to see this film. People are already not seeing it due to early reviews that the film is a dud. Did they see the same movie we saw?

  • Does anyone know when and where the L.A. premiere of "The Man in the Iron Mask" will take place? Some friends and I want to go to it, but we don't have any idea where it would be.
    ---Danae
  • While I was watching the Titanic special last night, I saw a commercial for The Man In The Iron Mask! It just basically summarized the whole plot of the movie, like how the Three Musketeers are going to switch the king with his imprisoned twin, and how the king wants them dead, and how he loves that French girl. The king that Leo plays is supposed to be a real jerk, so I think we're going to have to learn to hate him. I don't know about the rest of you, but I don't think I can do that.
