The following review (transcribed into English courtesy of yours truly, Mohammad Khan & Alta-Vista's Translation Service & picture above are from the French film site called CineNext Magazine. I hate to say it but the translation doesn't work out too well. Glean from it what you can. It reads like a bad acid trip at times. Kudos go out to the man with the greatest John Carpenter page on the internet, Marc Bright, and his agent in the field Jaxstor, for making all this possible.

Blasé of film of vampires, this one is for you. Stripped of all ornaments, Carpenter reaches Coeur kind and tries to renew it. As always it tries to be detached from the batch, and even if it is not any more with energy of antan, the result is amply jubilatoire.

Exit thus the folklore vampirist, more clove of garlic, cross, of ritual sanguinolent or of throbbing incantations, Carpenter sees his vampires like cow-boys, and if the general environment of film very western reinforces this idea, the mixture of the two kinds gives place to a total expatriation. The ingredients are known and recognized, but the images are tinted differences. The mixture is unusual and risky. The history and the characters are moved in a universe well étrangé with the nozzles of blood. Far from Carpates these are fans of Tequila and sombreros, not of Gothic bazaars, they are hard truths, avid killers either of blood but capacity (of the politicians of Carpates what !). Only the bites and the fear of the sun remain.

Purified, far from the shades and of the misty mysteries, Carpenter seems to very give again life with the myth of the vampires (in vogue in this moment, cf. file) ; being pressed on James Wood (famous not for his long monologues but rather for its small sentences assassinate), Sheryl Lee and Daniel Baldwin to leave film an unquestionable torpor. Thomas Ian Griffith brings the action and blood and without really never believing in it completely, the spectacle is always with the height. Just a small wish for its next film : a ch'tite cure of jouvance, for saying that it is as before...
