In movies, when people get shot, they sometimes use like a packaege and if you hit/squezze a cord the package explodes. With Mighty Joe, five-time Academy Award-winner Rick Baker designed his most ambitious creature yet. After formulating the creature's dimensions, finding materials to be used and figuring out the mechanics for operating Joe, Baker and his Cinovation Stud os designers spent almost a year creating several gorillas, in three different postures - on all fours, sitting and sleeping. For scenes of the film that required the gorilla to be more mobile, Baker and his team created a 15-foot hydraulic animatronic creature, which enables him to move and portray emotions along with the human cast. In other scenes, Mighty Joe is digitally an mated. For most of the film, though, Joe is played by Gorilla movement specialist John Alexander in a state-of-the-art ape suit with a motor-controlled head designed by Baker. MIGHTY JOE YOUNG is the most recent, but not the only one of Baker's forays into simian special effects wizardry. Baker previously designed the primate costumes for "Greystoke" as well as creating the gorillas for "Gorillas in the Mist," for which he als served as associate producer. He donned a gorilla suit for several projects with John Landis, including "The Incredible Shrinking Woman" and "Kentucky Fried Movie." He also worked with the famous ape from Dino de Laurenttis' 1976 version of "King Kong" with Jessica Lange and Jeff Bridges. I have worked in films and been rigged to wear a double squib once..for a scene. The effect was a gunshot through the shoulder and exiting out the ba k. I would like some information on the making of these special squibbs. Sort of a "how-to" and "do's and don'ts" of construction and use....Safety etc. Myself and associates often stage gun fights for entertaining large groups of People..... Any help would be appreciated......I am currently in the process of obtaining the Class B operators permit to handle and use these small explosives in the State of Nebraska.....
