Stars Over Broadway

(1935)

O'Brien is good as an out of work promoter, Al McGillevray, who, just as he is considering suicide, discovers a new singing talent Jan King (Melton). He works several odd jobs to give Jan a proper musical education. After a year, though, he tires of low level jobs and poverty, and he stops Jan's lessons and gets him a job singing in a night club. Jan becomes an overnight sensation, but he is soon ruined with success. While managing Jan, McGillevray comes across another great singer (Muir), but he tries to stop her from becoming a professional singer, fearing that she would end up like Jan, destroyed by fame and fortune. Muir gives a good performance and McHugh is amusing as song pusher "Offkey" Cramer. Better suited for fans of thirties musicals and /or opera. Choreographed by Busby Berkley.
