Samish Twin

SRO, Bellingham

3801 Bryon Ave.

The row of speaker posts is so orderly that as you look at the lot, you can see clear from one screen to the other with no projection booth in the middle.

Here you see the booth is off to the side.

They plopped the second screen right down in the middle of the former back row, leaving the speaker poles up for the amusement of thinking that anyone might use them. I don't know what kind of sound system they really use now.

Now showing at the Samish Twin, courtesy of Netscape Netcenter Movies.

Update: On September 2, 2000 I went by here again. They are still showing movies, but now there is a "For Sale" sign up front. Is the end near? (They are now, in fact, closed. The theater is still intact.)

Update: the theater has been turned into a park & ride, and remote parking for Western Washington University, about a mile away. They have removed the screens and leveled all the buildings, but have not resurfaced the theater's crumbling blacktop. They could conceivably have kept operating the theater at night.

On the other hand, the theater has shown up in Starr Creative Map of Bellingham, 4th edition.

Terraserver photo of Samish Twin. The newer screen is on the bottom. They didn't relandscape the paved lot, and anyway the screen is at an angle to catch the projected image, and so it runs even further out of the way of the landscaped rows.
