My Best Friend's Wedding
Large Popcorn
This movie has everything: Humor, Emotion, Intelect, and two of the most beautiful women in Hollywood. And they all work together to make this movie work. The story centers around Julianne Potter, played by Julia Roberts. One day she receives a phone call from her ex-boyfriend and now best friend of nine years who tells her that he's getting married...in four days! Still having feelings for him, she goes to the wedding in hopes of breaking it off, despite advice to the contrary from her editor and friend George Downes, played beautifully by Rupert Everett. Once in Chicago, Julianne meets up with her best friend Michael O'Neal, played by Dermot Mulroney, and his fiance Kimmy Wallace, played by Cameron Diaz. Julianne proceeds to attempt everything morally and ethically wrong to break the two up. On the surface, this doesn't sound like anything special. What makes it so good is the pure emotion it brings about. It makes you think about past loves, present girlfriends or husbands, and future relationships with people you haven't even met yet. It makes you dig deep down to the heart of your feelings and remember why you love, have loved in the past, or will love in the future. It also has to of the best characters I've seen in a long time: George Downes and Kimmy Wallace. I won't go into the sheer brilliance and hilarity of Rupert Everett's character, or the deep innocence and pure love of Cameron Diaz's. You must go see for yourself.
