Event Horizon

The best way I know to describe this movie is that it was disturbing. I don't mean just strange, I mean it was Stanley Kubrick disturbing. The movie is set about 50 years in the future and is about a deep space vessel, the Event Horizon, Which disappeared seven years earlier without a trace, but has somehow suddenly come back.
A rescue team is sent to investigate it and, if possible, bring back any crew members still alive. Captain Joe Miller, played by Laurence Fishburne, leads the rescue team which includes Dr. William Weir, played by Sam Neill, who is the brains behind the Event Horizon and its new technology.
Unfortunatly, I think this movie was too strange, even for the 90's audience. It was visually similar to the now classic sci-fi movie Alien, in that it was a dark movie with lots of shadows. But in this case the enemy just was not tangible enough to get the same effect. The whole idea of where the ship went and what kind of dimension it was was a little too far fetched.
Whoever wrote this story must be sick and sadistic ,and I would probably like him...or her, but it was a little too nightmarish.
