Here's a short celebrity horoscope on Tobey from the August issue of Teen People (Thanks to Minal!)

Tobey Maguire Cancer (June 27, 1975)

By sharpening his acting skills and forging new professional ties, Tobey will score a ticket to big-league success. This offbeat actor will swing from his rapidly rising star and be mentioned in the same breath as accomplished Cancers Cruise and Hanks.

There is also a picture of Tobey with a fan on the set of "The Cider House Rules" in the August issue of Seventeen Magazine with Katie Holmes on the cover.

Sunday, June 20:

Entertainment Weekly has named Tobey as part of the "It List" which is a list of the "100 Most Creative People in Entertainment". The nagazine is the June 25/July 2, 1999 issue with Heather Graham on the cover. Tobey is listed as the "It Method Man" with an accompanying photo and short article. The article is as follows...

Tobey Maguire. Age: 24 Why Him? Though pinup worthy, the "Pleasantville" star has chosen a different path, working with such directors as Woody Allen ("Deconstructing Harry") and Ang Lee ("The Ice Storm"). Work Habits: Doing his homework -- whether it's reading, writing, or taking it to the extreme. To get into character for Lee's "Ride With the Devil", Maguire did not shower for several weeks. "I play a guy who lives in the bush...and bathes when he finds a proper river," he says. "I just [needed] to get a little dirty." Next: He's in the upcoming "Devil", "Wonder Boys", and "The Cider House Rules".

The picture of Tobey with the above article is the one from the November US Magazine (Tobey's upclose face with his hand touching his mouth) Interview. However, though it is the same picture, Tobey has a large gash on his forehead in the Entertainment Weekly version of the picture, which US Magazine probably just retouched out of the picture. I have no idea where that gash came from but rest assured, it's an old picture from last year so that gash is long healed.

Tobey's going to be making an appearance, along with a slew of other celebs, at this year's MTV Movie Awards. Though the award show is actually taking place June 5th, the show is airing June 10th on MTV starting with a pre-show at 8:30 pm and the awards following at 9. Thanks to TobeyMagui who also sent me an email about this appearance.

There's a review of the script for "Wonder Boys" at Ain't It Cool News. Warning! This review has many spoilers so read at your own risk. The reviewer was very impressed with the quality of the script and believes "Wonder Boys" will definitely be in contention for some Oscars, "especially in the acting categories."

Thursday, May 13:

Tobey joined Lukas Haas and Leonardo DiCaprio at the star studded carnival style party for the new magazine Maxim in L.A. last week. Today on the Roseanne show, Roseanne broadcast her entire show from that Maxim party where she interviewed such other party-goers as Matt LeBlanc, Shannen Doherty, and James Woods. But Roseanne did not talk to Tobey who was said to be holed up most of the evening with Leo and Maxim president Steve Colvin. For more on that party and who attended click here.

Tobey is also planning to attend the MTV Private Screening of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace next Tuesday the 18th at 10 pm at The Skywalker Ranch along with a huge host of other young stars including Katie Holmes, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Elijah Wood and many, many more. Wonder Boys finished filming yesterday in Pittsburgh. Here's the story from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette...

'Wonder Boys' wraps

The "Wonder Boys" are heading home. Curtis Hanson, Michael Douglas and company called it a wrap yesterday, after shooting at locations throughout the city since Feb. 2.

"Wonder Boys," an adaptation of Michael Chabon's Pittsburgh-based novel, stars Douglas as Grady Tripp, a professor and novelist who scrambles to keep his life from breaking down over one hectic weekend. Directed by Hanson ("L.A. Confidential") for Paramount Pictures, the film also stars Tobey Maguire, Frances McDormand, Robert Downey Jr. and Katie Holmes.

During the shoot, Douglas was visible throughout town at restaurants, benefits and hockey games. Upon leaving Pittsburgh, Douglas and Hanson had some nice things to say about their experience here:

Michael Douglas:

"Pittsburgh is as friendly a city as any I've ever visited. I want to say thanks to everyone in the city for your patience and support, and I hope the movie will make you proud."

Curtis Hanson:

"On my first visit here I was struck by the unique beauty of the city; the powerful presence of its history; the diverse and friendly people who live here. It's several months later, and I still feel that way. All of these things enriched our experience here, and the movie we came to make."

Here's a little blurb from the Detroit News about what Tobey thinks of interviewers who constantly ask him about his famous friend...

It isn't easy being DiCaprio's pal

Tobey Maguire, who has movies like The Ice Storm and Pleasantville on his credit sheet, has an upcoming film, Wonder Boys, and is big buddies with Leonardo DiCaprio. Leo's chum isn't always an easy role. At an interview -- his interview -- the reporter showed up with page after page of questions about Leo -- not him. "If people want to do an article on Leo, they should call him," he says. "We've known each other for awhile, we're good friends ... and that's all."

Saturday, April 10:

The tentative release date for The Cider House Rules is November 24, 1999.

Friday, April 2:

This is just a little news item from the New York Daily News about Tobey attending a party for his friend, magician David Blaine.

David Blaine is digging deep into history, burying himself alive for seven days — a stunt that Houdini wanted to try but never got around to. But before the magician gets buried on Monday, he's fueling up with vodka cocktails. Blaine's future feat was feted by Kylie Bax, Devon Aoki, Sean (Puffy) Combs, Tobey Maguire, Donald Trump and Elijah Wood at the party thrown by Time Out New York magazine and Mor vodka at Joe's Pub on Tuesday night.

Monday, March 29:

There is finally an official release date for Ride With the Devil and, unfortunately, it's October 22 1999 instead of the previously reported June date. However, this October release is scheduled with hopes of scoring Oscar nominations (but with Wonder Boys and The Cider House Ru
