A Letter To Visitors

Dear Visitor,

When I first found my way to the internet, I found it virtually impossible to find General Hospital sites that interested me. I couldn't care less about Sonny or Brenda or Jax, I wanted to know about Luke, Laura and Lucky, the very reasons I started (and continue to) watch GH. I took it upon myself to create a place where other people, like me, could find out about Luke, Laura and the rest of the Spencer family. In November of 1996, The Unofficial Spencer Homepage was born.

I spent *countless* hours on my website trying to make it the very best that I could. I learned HTML and over time actually became quite good at it. I bought and scanned in all the major soap books and I did it with a hand scanner in the beginning. If youve ever used a hand scanner, then you know how incredibly time consuming that can be. After a little fine tuning, I created a website that I was proud to call my own. I updated the website every week for over a year, sometimes allowing my school work to suffer because of it, but I didnt care, working on the site gave me a sense of pride. I received complimentary E-Mails on a daily basis, it was great.

As time passed, I became less and less interested in the site and in GH as a whole, Genie Francis was gone, Tony Geary was on vacation and Jonathan Jacksons performance at the time left me cold. I was unemployed and the soap magazines were becoming a major liability and I wasnt even bothering to read them anymore. The complimentary E-Mails became much less frequent and I started receiving very critical E-Mails blasting me for my opinions on characters like Robin, threatening to boycott my site. At first it was amusing and then it became downright annoying. This was MY website and I had every right to express MY opinions. People were making personal attacks on me for my views and I was getting sick of it. I began to censor my writings just so I didnt have to wade through all the hate mail. Eventually, I just stopped updating altogether, it wasnt worth my time.

I have now completed what will be my final update. I have fixed the majority of the links that werent working, I added a biography page and updated some small aspects of the site. I hope that The Unofficial Spencer Homepage will continue to serve the web community for years to come as a reference site. The site will no longer be updated by my myself or anyone else. It was fun while it lasted, but the niche that was empty when the site was created is now over-flowing. Please remember that I was one of the first, if not THE first website dedicated to the Spencer family on the internet. Thank you for the many wonderful E-Mails I have received over the years and the great friends the site has allowed me to make. And thank you to the loyal web-surfers who frequented my site. All the best to you! May your days be filled with happiness and prosperity. Happy GH Watching!

Sincerely,
