MICHIGAN'S CHAMPION TREES!

Recently we visited with a couple of Traverse City area men, David Milarch and Chris Spears, who are actively involved in a program that would preserve and protect Michigan's state, national, and world champion trees. These trees are hundreds of years old and have managed to survive civilazation. These men are also active in a program that would propogate from the budding process these hybred trees. For more information on this program you may contact David Milarch at (616) 378-2172... FAX: (616) 378-2511. Or Chris Spears at: (evenings) (616) 929-3082 or write to 1260 Smith Rd., Traverse City, Mich. 49686. Would you like to see if you are near a registered MICHIGAN CHAMPION? Here are a couple of lists of recorded trees that may interest you!

MONKS OF THE U.P.

Back in 1989 Michigan Magazine began on Public Television with a story about two men from the southern Michigan area who gave up everything to begin lives as monks in the harsh solitude of the northern most reaches of Michigan's upper peninsula!

Brothers Peter and Stephen lived off the land by picking and selling berrys and fruits from the country side near Jacob Falls. Now after nearly ten years find out what they are up to by visiting the web page of THE SOCIETY OF ST JOHN.

These two men have come a long way with just a vision and plenty of faith. Now as you visit thier web page you will be amazed at thier progress in creating a breath taking monastary on the shores of Lake Superior!

REMEMBER THOSE MYSTERIOUS PAULDING LIGHTS?

Well...take it from me they DO appear nearly every night near this small remote western U.P. community. We were there!....and caught it on video! People are still seeing them on a regular basis and reporters are continuing to write about them and report what they saw. As a matter of fact you can check out this unusual event in Mark Jager's latest book MYSTIC MICHIGAN.

LET'S GO FISHIN'!

It's time to check in with your friend and mine BUCK WILDER! You may recall our Michigan Magazine visit with the creators of good ole Buck a few months back! The response to his "SMALL FRY FISHING GUIDE" was so great we decided to let you all contact him personally at his own web sight! Check it out!! It's for the young and the young at heart! Well...to tell you the truth... it's for anyone wanting to "catch more fish every time!"
