Stoop So Low

I just sat there in the dark. I had been sitting that way for about a week and a half. Since Sarah had left I couldn't even move, unless it was to get a drink. Since Sarah left I had gone back to my alcoholism. I had about twenty cans lined up in one staight line. The phone rang. I couldn't hear at first. Then the messege. "Bailey, it's me. Pick up." It was Sarah. "Bailey, come on. Can't we talk about this. Just cause I left dosen't mean we can't ever talk again." This was probably about the twelfth time she called since she'd left. "Well, Bay, please call me. I left my number last message. Please call." I wasn't going to call her. I had asked her to marry me and she ran. Why should I call her? I had decided it would be good to get some fresh air, so I went out to meet a friend I had met a while before Sarah left. I was late. But, so was he. I took a seat at a table in the small burger shop when he came in. "Hey, man," said Lucke. "Hey," I said. "Ya, know when Danea left me," Lucke said "I couldn't shake this feeling. So I took some of this." He held out a sack. "Just inject some of this into you when you're feeling down," he said. "Listen, I gotta go." "Bye, man," I said. I didn't want to go home, so I went to Charlie's. It was a Saturday, so everyone would be there. I walked in and Claudia greeted me with a half smile. She was helping Owen clean up a glass of spilled juice. Charlie was in the kitchen with Kirsten. They were doing what they did most these days, making wedding plans. Julia said hi to me in passing, on her way upstairs to change her twins, Nicole and Nicholos. Griffen rushed after her with the diaper bag. "Hi, Bailey," he said. "Hey, Char can I talk to you?" I asked. Charlie turned around with a not right now look on his face. I turned around and saw Julia bounding down the stairs. "Jules, can I-" "Not right now!" she shouted. She was pregnent, and had to go to the bathroom all the time. I turned around and left. When I got home, I didn't bother turning on the lights. I went to the fridge and got a drink. I sat on the couch and checked my messeges. "Bailey," Sarah's voice was on the machine again. "Bay, pick up the phone, we need to talk. Well, please, just call." I sat down. Why did she run? This got me thinking about how much I missed her. I couldn't go on without her. I looked in the bag to my side. The shot was filled up, so I shot up.

I had been shooting up for a couple of days, and it was helping me. I decided to go and see my family on Tuesday. I went, and the only people ther were Kirsten and Owen. Kirsten and I chatted a while. I remembered I had a shot in my pocket and felt the need. I went into the attic and shot up. I stayed there a while , and went back down. Griffen had come over. He talked to me and I just zoned out. I went home after a while, and checked the machine. Sarah had another messege. "Bay, please call me. I really want to talk........." That was all I heard in the message, because I passed out. I woke up a while later and shot up. The message disturbed me a little, even though I only heard a little of it. I had about seventy empty bottles of beer stacked and lined on my table. The phone rang, and Sarah's voice came on. "Bay, we really need to talk." This time it got to me. I went cray smashing everything and just making a mess. I passed out. That night I had a dream. Sarah was there, and that was about all I could remember. I shot up. I watched some tv, but it sounded like jibberish. I figured I was just so upset, so I shot up again. I shot up about ten more times and passed out.

I woke up on Saturday. I had shot up and passed out on Thursday. I checked my messages. Sarah had left all of them, about twelve. But one really got to me. "Bailey, I love you, and I really want to talk, so-" I picked up the phone. "Bay thank God." "If you love me, why'd you leave?" and I hung up. I shot up again. I turned off the lights and grabbed a drink. I didn't realise it at the time, but the way I was living would change, and destroy part of my life forever. I decided to go to Charlie's. I walked in and everyone stopped where they were, except for Owen. "Hey, guys," I said. "Bay, have you seen yourself lately?" asked Claud. "No. why?" I asked "Because you look like hell on earth," said Charlie. Julia handed me a mirror. "Dammit, Bay, what the hell is wrong with you?" she asked. When I looked in the mirror I saw I had huge circles under my eyes. I was as pale as hell, and I hadn't brushed my hair in days. "Well, why would you care?" I asked. "Because we found this," said Kirsten, holding up one of my needles. I had to squint to see it. I guess I was drunk. "Bailey, what the hell do you think you were doing bringing that into our house, my house!" yelled Charlie. "To think, mabey Owen had found it, or Claud, or even worse Diana!" "Charlie, calm down," said Kirsten. "No!!" yelled Charlie. "Come on, Char-"I started to say, but Kirsten cut me off. "Bailey, we're only doing this because we love you," she said. She started to cry, so I knew she meant it. Kirsten wasn't a very good actress. "I don't need any of you!" I yelled. I got in my jeep and just ran as far from the house as I could. As I drove, I guess I was so drunk, I couldn't see the light turn red, and thats when the car hit me.

I woke up in a hospital room drowsy and with bandages all over my body. It took me a while to realize who was standing by me. It was Sarah. "Sarah," I said. "Hi Bay. Listen, we need to talk," she said "Yes we do," I said. "Listen," we said at the same time. "You first," I said "Well first of all, I hope you relise the drugs and the alcohol did this to you, so you'll stop," she said, "and I ran. I got scared when you proposed, and I ran. But I love you, and I want to get married. Plus, I'm, well.." her voice trailed off, "well, I'm, I'm, um, pregnant," she said. I was shocked. So thats why she ran. "Will you take me back?" she asked. "Yes," I said. "and, I'll stop drinking, and the drugs. but what about jail. I mean drugs are illeagal." "Well, I bailed you out already," she said. "Mom, well, she did it." "But she hates me," I said. "But she wants to try to make ammends with me," Sarah said. "I love you Sarah," I said. "I love you Bailey," Sarah said. I pulled her close and kissed her. And it felt so......right.

Four months after that night. We were married. Kirsten and Charlie hed been married a month before hand. I carried Sarah into the room. "Are you sure you can handle me Bay? I mean, I am five months pregnant." said Sarah. "I can handle it," I said. I placed her on the bed, and we got ready for bed. She was in first. When I got in, I reached over her. She was asleep. Well, I guess that's married life.
