David Boreanaz / Angel

Angel, the demon with a soul.
When he first showed up in the pilot episode, it was very questionable what he was. Throughout the beginning of the first season he was portrayed as the mysterious and dark forseer of what was to come; giving warning to almost every new occurance. By the time they had finished the episode titled "Angel" everyone thought they had it figured out. But as we've begun to see this season, there's more than meets the eye. He has fallen in love with Buffy, the slayer, which is somewhat ironic seeing as it's her job to destroy him; but she won't. Instead, she has fallen for him, and no matter how many times he tells himself and her that there can't be anything between them, they slowly are moved closer to each other.
Angel is over 200 years old. After he was turned into a vampire he wreaked havoc throughout Europe; killing masses of people and causing destruction. It was a little over a hundred years ago that all that changed. He had just killed a young gypsy girl who's parents weren't too thrilled about it.They cursed him in the worst possible way...the gave him back his soul. You see, when the demon vampire takes over your body, you soul leaves. You have no remorse, no cares, no conscience. To gain back your soul after killing hundreds, maybe thousands, of innocent people is the worst punishment possible. Angel immediately went into hiding and moved to the USA, where he gave up hunting people and fed off of blood bags in his fridge. He had no troubles, all he did was mope around and torture himself over all the people he had killed; until Buffy showed up. Now he fights along side her and her friends to destroy the beings which are, to some extent, his surrogate family.
