Sunnydale is your average Californian
town, warm and trendy...oh, did I forget to mention it's on the mouth of
Hell?

Del Infierno is what the Spanish, who first settled there,called
it. Now it is known as Sunnydale, your average teen-run town. With seemingly
very little area to this town, and without any major happenings it would
make you wonder why there'd be a slayer hanging around. Of course, the
fact that every little while there is a strange and unexplainable death(s)
occurring there might be a good reason. According to Giles, a rough translation
of Sunnydale's original name is, in fact, Hellmouth. It is the center of
mystical energy, a perfect place for an age old vampire to try and open
a dimensional portal to bring back all the demons and monsters long gone.
If this happens, the end of the earth would 
soon
follow... as well as the end of all mankind. This vampire "master"
has tried before to open this portal, about 45 years before Buffy was even
born, but he failed due to a huge earthquake that swallowed half of Sunnydale
and him along with it.
Now he is trapped in a small tunnel underneath Sunnydale and he plans
on getting out, SOON. Well, to save time and space, at the end of the season
he tried again, got out, released all the demons, supposedly killed Buffy,
Xander brought her back to life, she (supposedly) killed the vampire "master"
which closed the dimensional portal, thus ending any further danger done
by him...oh, but wait, what about the annointed one? Oh, you don't know
who he is? Guess you'll have to watch the show then.
