where is he now: River Phoenix. From brilliant beginnings as a cool kid in Explorers and Stand By Me to his best performance, as a street hustler in My Own Private Idaho , River could act. His talent earned him an academy award nomination for Best Supporting Actor in Running on Empty in 1988. River Phoenix was more than just a pretty face. Oh yes, he was cute; god he was cute. But the boy could take a part and make it his. His passion for his music was equally as exciting to watch. His band, Aleka's Attic (with sister Rain and others), wasn't bad. And River had a nice voice (he sings a few songs in one of his last efforts, The Thing Called Love ). It's sad that River's life was so short. But at least he left behind some impressive work to remember him by. Passionate, talented, young and reckless; that was River. We loved him for it. We miss you River!
