Titanic & The Academy Awards
3/23/98 - Titanic (and James Cameron) went home with 11 of the 14 Oscars that the epic film was nominated for at the 70th Annual Academy Awards. They swept all technical awards, all music awards, and Best Picture & Best Director for Cameron. The three awards they lost were best actress, which went to whatshername from the movie with the dog (so shoot me. I saw it...and it bored me), best supporting actress went to Kim Basinger for L.A. Confidential, and MIB took the statuette for best make-up. With their 11 wins, Titanic ties for the record with Ben Hur.
2/10/98 - Titanic has blown away the competition once again and earned 14 Academy Awards nominations. The James Cameron epic, which recently took over the spot of #3 top grossing film of all time, tied a record for most nominations w/All About Eve in 1954. Ben Hur holds the record for wins with 11. The nominations are as follows...
| Best Picture | Best Director - James Cameron | Best Actress - Kate Winslet |
| Best Supporting Actress - Gloria Stuart | Best Original Song - My Heart Will Go On |
| Best Original Dramatic Score - Composed by James Horner |
Best Sound |
