Holmes figures on the Net
One question I'm often asked, here in the
Holmes In Scale workshop is,"Where can
I get Sherlock Holmes figures?" We've
taken a hansom ride around the Net for
you, and found the following sites:
First, an overview of Sherlockian figure collecting, as a sub-category
of the toy soldier market. According
to the article, written by Curtis Sleight,
Holmes is the most popular "civilian"
figure:
This is the website of Imrie/Risley, which
produces a fantastic line of unpainted
Sherlock Holmes figures in 54mm. Inex-
pensive and well done, they are a fine way
to begin your collection:
This company sells several sets of painted
Holmes figures, including a railway carriage interior, and a hansom set:
A nice set, featuring Holmes and Watson
with a portion of wall representing Baker
Street. This is part of a set of Victorian
figures, many of which are adaptable to
become other canonical figures:
Aside from some nice figures in this site,
there is an incredible pewter hansom set
that we here at HIS can't stop drooling
over:
In this commercial website from pewterist Michael J. Gilbert, there are
superb figures of Holmes and Watson in
89mm, and a Holmes bust about 85mm
tall. These figures are on bases and of
fine quality:
Somewhat out of the ordinary, this is a figure of Queen Victoria, part of the
Madame Tussaud line by Icon,a division
of Corgi. She stands 68mm high, is painted realistically, and is inexpensive as
scale figures go:
This does not exhaust the list, but I'm sure you'll agree it is impressive. If any
of you have figures which I haven't listed,
or which are no longer in production,
send a messenger my way. I'm trying to
produce a definitive work, "The Whole
Art of Holmesian Figures." :)
