Synopsis On the cover it says, “Pray you never hear the last gasp” and “from the writer of ‘Water World’, Terminal Velocity’ and ‘The Fugitive’. Robert Patrick plays Leslie Chase a ruthless property developer who inhales the last gasp from a totec indian chieftan he has just killed. According to legend the soul of a dying totec leaves the body and seeks out the nearest human. Now this spirit controls Chase to kill and kill again and partially eat his victims to feed his inner demons. Joanna Pacula plays Nora Weeks who is investigating the disappearance of her husband Julian. Well you could almost see what’s going to happen. My Thoughts This is not a blockbuster movie but still an exciting storyline. I love thrillers and I certainly would have watched this movie and enjoyed it even without our beloved RP’s presence. RP is excellently cast in this movie which requires him to show a great range of emotions and changes in personality. In one scene we see his expression gradually change from himself to his soul-possessed self – major creepy. RP’s involvement I wanna be RP’s make-up lady in this movie! I wanna be the one to run my fingers over his adorable face and rub that oil all over him! Well a girl can dream. Robert Patrick plays a big part in this movie although we see him more in the second half. The reason for this is that two different stories are being set up – Leslie Chase and his unfortunate foray with the spirit world and Nora Weeks investigating her husband’s disappearance. Both stories collide in the middle of the movie and from there on we see RP much more. * slaps hand for thinking what we see more of * This movie is a must in any RP collection. The most memorable impression we’re left with is just how expressive his face can be. He has so many adorable, evil, angelic, intense, puppydog, sly, remorseful, terrified, teary, sad, frustrated expressions. He goes through the whole gammit here and his eyes are to-die-for. You know that angelic look he can give with slow blinks that makes your heart melt? I’ve watched Last Gasp about 8 times so far. I would love the DVD to be able to fast forward to all his ‘eyes’ scenes and to THE scene that has worn a hole in my VHS. You’ll just have to make sure you’re sitting down and medicated before you see this bedroom scene. |
Memorable RP Lines Chase (RP) to Goldie (Nora’s friend) “You look wonderful in blue. Have I told you that?” Imagine an angelic face and gravely voice and you’ll be ringing for that ambulance. Goldie (Mimi Craven) to Chase at dinner, “You’re not having any of these critters?” Chase “I’m trying to cut down on red meat.” Goldie to Nora “You know the scar on his neck? I’m sure you’ve noticed, it’s his only flaw.” Too true!! Goldie “Are you always on time? Chase “It’s a vice I have.” Goldie ‘Well I hope it’s not your only vice.” I agree. Memorable scenes * Love the chin fuzz at the start * That look on his face when he inhales the last gasp. * Woah – he looks so hot in sunglasses * Love the sexy scar * The blue suit and the hair when picking up Goldie for a date. I feel dizzy. * That tear running slowly down his face. * THE bedroom scene – I need sedatives!! Note Did you recognise Vyto Ruginis who played Ray Tattinger the private investigator? You guessed it – he also played Lt. Bianco in X Files season 8 ‘Medusa’. End thoughts I would recommend all Robert Patrick enthusiasts to see this movie and I would also suggest you buy it for your collections. You may want to see it over and over. If not for the gorgeous, oiled, toned bod then watch this movie for the wonderful range of expressions he exudes that prove what an accomplished actor he is. |
