Holy Family Class of 1961
On August 4, 2003, 40 members of the Class of 1961 and guests gathered at the Reservation Clubhouse in Mattapoisett for an evening of fun and memories of the good times at Holy Family High School in New Bedford, Ma. The classmates came from as far away as California to attend the reunion.
In the beginning of the reunion, classmates caught up with what has transpired during the past 42 years in their lives.
The doorway was jammed as alumni greeted each other and the noise level increased as comments were made "Did you know that "so in so" is here?"
"Boy, I wouldn't have recognized him if he didn't have a name tag".
Not surprisingly, there were even a few catty remarks from the majority gender of the class about wrinkles and bald heads!
The group enjoyed more in-depth catching up and conversation during the meal.
Prior to the meal, Jim Dufficy offered the benediction asking for special blessings for classmates no longer with us and those suffering from illnesses
Reunion Chairperson, Martha (Sullivan) Osborne acted as the 'mc' and introducing the evening's program. She begin by reminiscing about the past and how New Bedford Center in the 1960s was different than today with examples of the Thursday nights and Friday night Y dances.
A group straight from the Y dances, vintage 1960s appeared. The group expanded to include one of the 'sisters' who with the rest of the group danced and sang.
Next up was a surprise: Straight from Nashville, Tennessee, Elvis appeared in his best Vegas costume. He regaled the crowd as only The King can.
The formal part of the entertainment closed with Connie Francis' appearance singing "Where the Boys Are". Evidently she is still looking for them.
