Figuring your IBU (international bittering units):

(3.5 x hop alpha acids)

Example:  35 IBU's desire using fuggles hops ( 5.1% alpha acids )

( 3.5 x 5.1 Alpha acids)

Note: IBU's are approx.  because of factors that may change the release of alpha acids.  (i.e. boiling time and heat).  The longer that you boil your hops the more Alpha acids that will be released.  Also if you brew at a low boil, it may take longer to release alpha acids...Questions about brewing times see, your first homebrew

To determine how much malt to use for a (specific) Specific gravity:
