Episode 9 - Lovers - Paco Gomez
Stone wakes up in the morning.  To the song, ‘Nobody knows the trouble I’ve seen,” Stone wanders down to the beach.  His attention seems to be focused on families, couples, and a cute girl rollerblading past him.  He gets some rollerblades, and starts working his way down the beach.  Stone accidentally crashes into an old man with a walker.  As he helps him up, the old man turns out to be The Devil.  Stone tries to convince the devil to have fun at the beach, which he does by rolling his walker into people.
Paco Gomez is talking to a priest about a woman he loves and wants to marry.  A middle aged man, Ziggy, spots Paco, and they recognize each other.  Ziggy runs, and Paco chases him, demanding the money he is owed.  When someone tries to stop the argument, Paco burns the stranger’s heart out.
Stone is car shopping.  The salesman at the used car lot is The Devil; he berates Stone for being lazy and not wanting to walk.  However, he does have one car that he is willing to sell for $36.27.  The car is ready for the junk heap, but there is no other choice, so he takes it and drives away in a cloud of exhaust.
Paco shows up at a jewelry store.  The clerk will not let him in, even when he shows he has money.  He gets angry, and breaks in the window.  As the alarm rings, he picks out a ring, and then robs the register.
Stone is driving down the road.  A guy on a bike lazily catches up to him, looks at him, and then pulls ahead.  Stone finds a card for Bogard’s Auto Repair, “We fix anything!”
Paco pulls up to pick up Jocelyn in a new convertible.  He was supposed to meet her around the side of the house.
At Bogard’s, they can’t fix Stone’s car.  The owner offers him $50 and a tank of gas for his hood ornament, which looks like an angel flying, its wings raked back.  Stone refuses.  He hears about how the chief mechanic saw a guy back from the dead.
Stone goes to talk to Ziggy, who tells him about what happened with Paco.

Paco and Jocelyn are parked in the car.  Paco wants to buy her nice things like she is used to.  She tells him in a few days they will have all the money, and they can leave.
Stone visits Mrs. Gomez to get his fortune told.  She shows him a picture of Paco, and the cross that he always wore.  She is shocked when he doesn’t have a lifeline.
Paco and Jocelyn are still in the car.  He gives her the ring, and asks her to marry him right now.  She wants him to wait a few days.  A cop comes over and orders them out of the car.  They get out, and Jocelyn Paige introduces herself as Ruth Paige’s great-niece.  The cop explains the car was stolen.  He lets Jocelyn get back into the car, and takes Paco away.  Paco comes back alone a minute later.  Stone shows up and finds the cop with a hand burned into her chest.
At the country club, Jocelyn is flirting with Brad Armstrong, her aunt’s business manager.  Her aunt has just left the country for 5 weeks, and she asks Brad to get her power of attorney.  Brad says he can’t do it without Aunt Ruth’s signature, but she sweet talks him and asks him to bring the papers by the house tomorrow.
Stone and Max are sitting in the restaurant.  Max gets on Stone about eating healthy.  She has done research for him to find out about Paco Gomezs that died in 1967, one died in a high speed car chase after killing two people in a robbery.
Paco shows up at Jocelyn’s house.  They kiss until Brad shows up.  Paco finds flowers from Brad as he goes into the back to hide.  Paco is also watching as Jocelyn kisses Brad on the cheek when he gives her the papers.  Brad says there are a few more papers to be drawn up, and they should have dinner tomorrow to celebrate.  She says okay.
At the country club, Brad is waiting for his car, and Paco, pretending to be a valet, drives up and says it wouldn’t start.  Brad gets in so they can drive down there.  Paco rams the car into concrete barriers, and then walks away from the accident unharmed.
Stone is sitting at home drinking a beer.  The Devil shows up, and Stone asks for a few days off.  The Devil offers him some things to do in Hell.  Stone decides to go hit golf balls instead.
Luckily, the place he was going to hit golf balls happens to be the crime scene.  Stone talks to Fraker, but does not ask about where Ash is until prompted by Fraker.  Fraker does not know where she is.  Stone takes the florist receipt from Brad’s body.
Stone shows up to talk to Jocelyn about her boyfriend.  When she find out he means Brad, she says she doesn’t have one.  Stone spots the cross that Paco always wore around her neck, and tells her that Paco is probably the one who killed Brad.  She is upset, but still insists she doesn’t know any Paco.  Until Paco pulls up into the driveway, hen she screams “Paco, no, get out of here!”
Stone slowly chases Paco in his car.  He spots Paco’s car pulled off on the side of the road.  When he stops to investigate, Paco jumps him.  They fight, and Stone sends him back using the hood ornament from his car.  Cut to Jocelyn, who senses his death, and we see her eyes flash red.
Jocelyn shows up at Stone’s hotel.  She asks him to drive her home.  At the house, he opens the car door for her, which would be gentlemanly except that it doesn’t open from the inside. She asks him to come in the house and talk.
Inside, they talk about love.  He tries to tell her that Paco had a hidden past, and then tells her that Paco is dead.  She quotes John Lennon, and lets slip that they were going to see the Beatles on their next tour.  Stone realizes she is dead too just before she attacks him.  She runs upstairs, and we hear the song “Que Sara Sara” playing.  Stone tries to shoot her, but his gun is empty.  She was not in the newspaper article about Paco’s death because her family didn’t want her name associated with someone below her class.  The two people that were killed that night were her parents.
She tells him because, “It’s not as if you’ll ever leave this house alive."
Stone replies, “I’ve got news for you.  I never entered it alive.”
She slashes at him, he is unharmed.  She tries to send him back, and he says he’ll say hi to Paco for her.  She starts crying, “Look what you’ve done to us.  Now the only place we can be together is there… and there is such an awful place.”
They watch each other in silence for a moment, and we listen to the music still playing in the background “…whatever will be, will be…”  Jocelyn jams her fingers into her own eyes.
Outside, The Devil is waiting on his car.  Stone gets out his rollerblades, and shoots the car in the headlights, sending it back to Hell.  He rollerblades into the night.
