Bites |
Dog Bites are usually easy to see and not likely to become infected if treated. Clean the wound with hydrogen peroxide. It might sting a little, use a muzzle. (Buy a pet first aid kit, I recommend the one on the left) Cat Bites tend to be small punctures that may not be visible until an abscess forms a few days after the injury. If you find a cat bite wound on your pet and it's not infected, clean it the same way you would clean a dog bite wound. If the wound has become abscessed, the area will be swollen and painful to the touch. If the bite is on a leg the animal may limp. After cleaning the wound with 3% hydrogen peroxide, apply Betadine or an antibiotic ointment. An infected bite wound should be seen by a veterinarian. The abscess may need to be drained, and oral antibiotics may need to be prescribed. Any bite by an untagged or unknown animal should be examined by a vet, due to the risk of rabies. If you suspect a snake bite, get your pet to the veterinarian A.S.A.P. |
