Happy Valentine's Day!
I thought that I would share with you what the Lord led me to do for the month of February one year in my efforts to be the best wife I can be. I was praying and asking the Lord how to best romance my husband for the entire month of February, and the idea He gave me was so wonderful. Each day of February, I would "give my heart" to my husband--that is, I cut out one small, red heart from red card stock for each day of February. (The idea came to me the 6th, so don't feel you can't try it if you've missed a day or two, or even the first week--go ahead and start today!) Each heart was folded in half and numbered with a different date on the front. Inside I wrote a short note of what I planned to do on that day for my husband. (I did write these out on paper first to get them all organized.) I let my husband know my intention to do at least one romantic thing for him every day of February. I also let him know that I would "give him my heart" each morning--handing him one paper heart at the start of each day with that day's romantic action on it. That way, I made myself accountable to follow through. Below, you will find a partial list of some of the ideas God helped me to come up with. Each of these was to be done with *no* effort on my husband's part--I even wrote on the heart the time of day for the action, so that we would have an "appointment" to keep. If you decide to give this a try, think of things that are particular favorites of *your* husband. ~~ Give Him Your Heart for February ~~ 7th - Fresh-baked cookies; Foot soak & favorite beverage in a frosted mug 8th - Hot bath & shampoo with scalp massage 9th - Foot massage with peppermint foot lotion; Bowl of favorite ice cream 10th - Special breakfast of omelette served with chocolate milk made with Hershey's syrup 11th - Homemade lasagna [a favorite of his] 12th - Handwritten love notes...one to be opened each hour of the day 13th - A bouquet of flowers (these are economical at the local grocer) & a heart-shaped giant brownie with red cinnamon hearts on top 14th - VALENTINE'S DAY!!! We already have an established tradition for this day--we always have a very special candlelit dinner in our living room (kids are either at a sitter's or tucked in early). We both dress in our finest outfits, and we cook a special meal together. I always try to budget carefully this month so that we can "splurge" a little on this meal (it is still far less than a fancy meal out). We set a small table as beautifully as we can, including tablecloth and cloth napkins (these can be made easily). We use fancy champagne glasses, even if all we drink is apple juice or ginger ale. We also have romantic music playing quietly in the background. Usually we will dance at least one dance right there in the living room. We exchange cards & gifts some time during the meal. (Remember that most men like chocolates, too--even if all you can afford is one of the small kid-size hearts! :)) 15th - Read some of my own poems to my husband . . . Well . . . that should give you some idea of what can be done through prayer and a little creativity--now you can finish out the rest of the days of February with your own original ideas! Remember, God wants us to be *creative* counterparts. Take advantage of all the talent and creativity God has blessed you with.....and if you somehow think you don't have any, just ask Him, He gives *freely* to those who ask! God bless you, and HAPPY VALENTINE'S *MONTH!* |
