SCHEDULE FOR 2003-2004 LAKE ERIE CENTER CLASSES

FALL I  - Seven week session from the week of Sept. 8th through the week of Oct. 20th

FALL II  - Seven week session from the week of Oct. 27th through the week of Dec. 15th

WINTER I  - Seven week session from the week of Jan. 5th through the week of Feb. 16th

WINTER II  - Seven week session from the week of Feb. 23rd through the week of April 5th

SPRING  - Seven week session from the week of April 19th through the week of June 1st

This schedule provides for a week off for Thanksgiving, two weeks off for the Christmas and New Year holiday season, and a week off for Spring break.  Classes are planned for Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  All ages given are
guidelines, however class size is limited to the stated size.  If enough students are on a waiting list for a class, we can offer that class in another session.

FALL I

SECRET FORMULAS

Dates:  Tuesdays - Sept. 9, 16, 23, 30, Oct. 7, 14, 21
Time:  9:30am - 10:30am
Ages:  7 - 9 year olds
Class size:  Limited to ten
Description:  Hands-on physical science activities become real-life experiences as we make our own glue, toothpaste, cola, "gel-o", crystals and the like.  Come unlock the mysteries behind these secret formulas and learn
about chemistry too!

DISSECTION I
Dates: Tuesdays - Sept. 9, 16, 23, 30, Oct. 7, 14, 21
Time:  11:00am - 1:00pm
Ages:  11 years old and up
Class size:  Limited to sixteen
Description:  This is a repeat of the summer dissection class for those of you who missed it!  We will learn dissection technique as well as animal and human physiology and anatomy by dissecting everything from earthworms to frogs.

ENVIRONMENTAL DETECTIVES
Dates:  Wednesdays - Sept. 10, 17, 24, Oct. 1, 8, 15, 22
Time:  9:30am - 10:30am
Ages:  11 years old and up
Class size:  Limited to sixteen
Description:  By performing experiments to solve the mysteries behind different types of pollution, we will look at the complexity of environmental problems and how major impacts can be triggered by seemingly small changes.  We will also read an environmental mystery by Jean Craighead George.

BASIC CHEMISTRY
Dates:  Wednesdays - Sept. 10, 17, 24, Oct. 1, 8, 15, 22
Time:  11:00am - 1:00pm
Ages:  11 years old and up
Class size:  Limited to sixteen
Description:  In this class, we will explore the basic principles of chemistry and chemical reactions through a series of experiments that show how chemicals change color, produce gas, and mix to produce heat, cold and
odor.
