Horn Creek Trail * Horn Creek Trail *
Wide Single Track

The Horn Creek Trail network is a multi-use trail for hiking, biking and horses. The main trail is 5.7miles (9.5km) and is flat for the most part with no real challenges. But a nice ride none the less.

It was 52 degrees this day, so a couple of layers were in order (no coat).

This trail looks very similar to the Harbison State Forest trails, being that many of the trees are generic to the state. Even the little bridges looked amazingly the same. The big difference is trail width. Much wider and flatter. Easy to ride.

One of the obstacles with trails shared with horses is what they leave behind. Needless to say, I was on the lookout for clumps.

One advantage of sharing trails with horses, is the grade of the terrain. Many bridal trails are relatively flat and have no real tech sections, other than stream crossings.

Unfortunately, I didn't take a picture of the view over the rolling hills up ahead on the right. There was only a couple of vantage points and being that I did this loop only once, I didn't go back up the trail to take a picture.

As you can see, the trail is very wide in sections. The story I have heard, is that this used to be an access road to the remote areas of the forest, where a research cabin and lookout tower used to be, that is now abandoned.

The loop was actually quite long, and even though it was relatively flat, it still took over 2 hours to bike. A nice fitness trail to give the legs a good work-out or to gear-up for the tough stuff at Pisgah. I met lots of people on this trail.

I didn't know where to put this picture but it was such a great sight on the way home. Needless to say this was an "emergency stop" as the sign up ahead requests. The tunnel is up by the white building and is 1mile long.
