GST on medicines withdrawn

Islamabad, August 23, 2003: After remaining in force for five months, the GST on medicines, including homoeopathic medicines, has finally been withdrawn with effect from August 22 and the Government has announced it would refund the GST paid by the importers and manufacturers during the month of August.

Strong protests by leaders of opinion and country-wide agitation  by the powerful allopathic lobby finally succeeded in bringing the Government to its knee and make it see the ill-advisability of its decision which was termed as “taxing the health”.
