Specs Anyone!?

You've all seen them.  You've probably WORN them.
Here's the story behind "the wearing of the goofy glasses."

INNOCENT BEGINNINGS.  It happened on a long, dull, four lane interstate highway not unlike any other.  Except it was in Alabama.  And we had NY plates. And drove like it. But I digress.

Day Two into our 22 state, cross country VEGAS (!!) road trip Jen whipped out a pair of freaky red sunglasses!  But, Jenn Redd doing outlandish things -- that's nothing new! Little did we know what would evolve from such innocent roots . . .

BLAME IT ON TEXAS . . . Enter Day Four of our sleepless trip.  We were headed into New Mexico, Arizona and onto Vegas after surviving Day Three -- 22 hours in the car traveling through

Texas after a looooonnnnnggg night in Nawliens' French Corner -- ("You mean the French QUARTER, Pat").   The car wasn't feeling so comfortable anymore! We were road weary.  Texas had truly challenged us....
DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS. Let me explain . . . Everything they say about Texas is true.  Texas resembles the surface of Mars.  Grey, dusty, flat and full of moon rocks.  That's about it.  And the road stretches out straight ahead for hours . . .
BEEP....BEEP...BEEP....BEEP....   Another complaint: Texans seem to enjoy messing with people.... they don't have those nifty driver-friendly signs in Texas to warn you that there's a gazillion miles between you and the next gas station. The darn warning bell beeped away for an hour. Texan ghost towns teased us into believing that there might be a gas station nearby. Those Texan nights are DARK!!  . . . and a HUGE deer or elk -- or whatever that thing was -- scared the bajeevers out of

us when it jumped out and almost landed on the hood of the car!  As they say, EVERYTHING IS BIG IN TEXAS....!  We pressed on -- not another set of  tailights in sight.... I never knew  that you can drive at least 67 miles on fumes.

We survived Texas.  And Pat demonstrated her adept ability to traverse interstate medians to avoid large creatures of the night! (No, that stunt WASN'T THE REASON FOR THE TICKET...that came later...)

Needless to say, even with the City of Lights on the horizon we needed inspiration.  And it came at the Cracker Barrel in New Mexico.  Jen discovered a NEW pair of spectacles and she drove through New Mexico as "The Bug-Eyed Wonder!!"

It soon became apparent that good times began when the specs went on.
The specs come out on every possible occasion and people CHILL.
And so the tradition began...

The tradition continued that fall . . . Austin Powers style. At Christmas, Deb introduced the Nerd Glasses. ...the idea caught fire... there was no stopping the rage! Even Poppa G tried em on for size!
