YahooPOPs!

Do you Yahoo! with Outlook, Outlook Express, Netscape, Eudora, Mozilla, IncrediMail, Calypso, etc???

Ok, then you need to read the rest of this as you ARE using POP/SMTP to access your e-mail!

I already have Yahoo!, why do I need this?
Yahoo! disabled the free access to its POP/SMTP e-mail service in April 2002. This resulted in many people having to look for an alternative free service. Those people that chose to stay with Yahoo! had to begin using the web to access their e-mail account OR had to pay $9 + a year to continue. The alternative was to get an e-mail elsewhere, but your e-mail address could be with several places/people. Informing all of them about your new e-mail address could prove to be a nightmare. Prior to YahooPOPs! maany people just switched to accessing Yahoo! their e-mail via the web. Another BIG disadvantage of not having this POP/SMTP access is being subjected to the Y! imposed online mailbox limit of 4 megabytes total.

YahooPOPs! allows you to access your Yahoo! e-mail account with your favorite e-mail program WITHOUT exceeding your Yahoo! online storage limit of 4 megabytes! With POP/SMTP access your e-mail storage space is only limited by your PC's diskspace.

What does this program do?
YahooPOPs! eliminates having to pay a fee to Yahoo! for POP/SMTP access. YahooPOPs! Is a small program that does the e-mail send-receive for you. It emulates the Yahoo! POP3/SMTP server. YahooPOPs! does the connection to Yahoo! via web mail.

Can I still use my favorite e-mail program?
Yes, you can use any of the popular email clients (like Outlook, Outlook Express, Netscape, Eudora, Mozilla, IncrediMail, Calypso, etc.) to read and send emails from your Yahoo! e-mail account.

YahooPOPs! is an open-source initiative (a type of freeware) to provide free POP3 and SMTP access to your Yahoo! e-mail account. http://yahoopops.sourceforge.net/index.php

Sending e-mail - very important!

To be able to send e-mail you need to enable one OR the other of server option setups below:

1) Use your ISP's server The SMTP server would be something like smtp.yourisp.com OR mail.yourisp.com or even smtp.mail.yourisp.com Open your regular e-mail account's setting in your e-mail program and make note of it. Use this for the Yahoo! SMTP server setting. It's easiest to just copy it and then past it in the Y! account's settings profile.

OR

2) Use YahooPOPs! - This has to be enabled as it's disabled by default. In our testing it's quite usable. Right click on the YahooPOPs! Tray Icon. Click on "Configure", expand "Advanced Preferences", and click on "Network" In the right section labeled "SMTP" place a check in the Enable SMTP checkbox. See final configuration below. Click OK.
