Pikes Peak

Pike Summit

I first climbed Pikes Peak in September of 97 on Barr Trail. I have been up there several times since. My last trip was a solo in October of 98. This picture is from my first trip up Pikes Peak. There's Lori Strathman, me, Missy Blevins, and Bobbie Borowski. Bobbie and I hiked up, but Missy and Lori drove to the top to meet us.

Treeline

The view of the Summit from the A-frame shelter. Bobbie and I hiked to the shelter the first day and spent the night here. The next day we summited and hiked all the way back down 13 miles. This year when I hiked it solo in October, I went all the way to the summit the first day, then came back down and spent the night at the a-frame. Sorry, no pictures that trip.

Trees

View from A-frame

This is the same point of view above the A-frame shelter at Timberline in February. Jerry Killion, Bobbie Borowski and I tried this winter ascent but the snow proved to much for us without snow shoes. We're making plans to go back in January of 99 and try it again.

Triumph?

This was the high point of our February trip. Just above the A-frame shelter at treeline. The snow is a little crusty in this spot, but it was not uncommon to posthole up to our belly buttons.

A-frame

The original plan for our February trip was to hike to the A-frame, spend the night there and then go for the summit. But Bobbie had some trouble with her knee, so Jerry and I dropped our big packs with Bobbie at Barr camp and made a run for it. We got to the A-frame and decided that was far enough.

Winter Summit

Pikes Peak in February from just below Barr Camp at 10,000 ft. It doesn't look like much snow from here but we were surprised with how much there really was.

Bobbie and Jerry

We didn't make the summit on this trip, but any trip that you have fun, and come back alive is a good one.

Aspen

This is one of my favorite hikes. It is the Crags on the West side of Pikes Peak. Beautiful Aspen every fall and views that go on forever.
