Summer Memories

Leaving for the ranch in a early 60's Dodge motorhome
packed to the gills with kids and adults, at 3 AM.

Bare feet constantly covered with red dirt.

Picking blackberries because you got into trouble.

Riding Shadow and my pony, Uncle Tom Starlight.

Slapping mosquitoes.

Playing in the giant tinhorn where the creek runs through.

Fighting off spiders and rattlesnakes.

Fishing, early in the morning, for Rainbow Trout and Salmon.

Roasting hot dogs and marshmallows on the river beach.

Sleeping, at night, underneath the streetlamp
so we can watch the bats eat the flying insects.

Kool-Aid popsicles.

12 or more kids sleeping in the loft,
LISTENING to the bats in the ceiling tiles.

Playing baseball in the pasture.

Ghost stories and midnight outings to the old graveyard.

Black felt hats.

Black Russians and cigars.

Playing in the barn.

Blackberry pie.

Accidentally finding a Yellow-Jacket's nest with my foot
and having them invade my overalls!

Rafting down the Klamath River.

Guitar playing and folk songs.

Watching my mother stitch my brother's eyebrow closed
because the doctor was too far away.

Mice!

Big family dinners together with friends.

Chasing my older brother's and sister's.(Ok! EVERYONE! Ha,ha,ha....)

Poison Oak.

Watching the bears at the city dump.

Lady, Bam Bam, and the two calves.

Scorpions under the water heater.

Hot, lazy days.

Going to Happy Camp to watch "Paint Your Wagon"
in the little theater.

Driving down the Klamath River road at night,
in the dark, in the motorhome, because there was
a short in the headlight wiring. VERY SCARY!

Homemade Ice Cream.

Ranger Rice with his many bees, and honey. Absolutely the best!

Digging for Nightcrawlers to use as bait for fishing.

Hiking the trails.

The smell of the Tack Room.

Ruby Miller and her Flip-Flops.

Getting dirty, having fun, and swimming in the river.

These are my memories of summer. How about you?
