morning thoughts
30 May, 2000
LJA
she lies sleeping
brings her
tousled hair
 school and friends
scattered around her head
new hopes new joys
like her clothes in disarray
 my child
across the floor
this woman lying there
my youngest girl
 my baby grown
a child no more to find her way
but woman
 within the world
young and vibrant my heart swells
filled with dreams of youth  with
I watch her sleep the knowing of her
my presence wakes her  lying there
with a groan
in dreams
"too early, mom, of futures yet untried
I want to sleep"  and yet her own
she pulls her covers
to live
to her head and
 my daughter
curls to rest
 my baby once
 until the morning
a young woman now
