| Spirit is important in cheerleading. Cheerleaders have the responsibility of keeping the crowd and the team excited. There are many ways this can be done. Using signs is an excellent way to get the interest of the crowd. Posters are great too. At my school we made a little poster the size of a sheet of computer paper for each football player. We posted them in the hallway the morning of the game. We also gave them treats with slogans attached before every game. My favorites were the Crunch bars with the slogan "Crunch The Huskies" and the Milky Way bars with "Blast 'Em to the Milky Way!" Creative posters can make all the difference in the world! The players get more excited and the crowd loves them too. The best posters are not negative like "Crush the Chargers." Signs should be appropriate and show good sportsmanship. If you have good artists on your squad you can add illustrations to make the posters more exciting. The following is a list of poster slogans: The Rockets Rock the House! We Want Action on that Field! Nonstop to the Top! Our Team is Dynamite! Get Tough Rockets! Charge Up for a Victory! Rockets have Super Spirit! Rockets Cant be Stopped! The Rockets are Sizzlin! Explode Your Spirit! Take it to the Limit! Weve got the Power! Were Victory Bound! Fight for a Win! Rockets "R" #1! Here are some ideas I've recieved: I went to a cheerleading clinic about two years ago and we wre really nervous about performing at half time. Our coach had us clap 3 times and then yell "cheer" as loud as we could. We did it over and over again and it finally got our spirits up and we were so excited. Guess what!? We did great! My mom and I came up with this skit one day when we were in need of a good pep rally. A "Fired up and Ready" theme: we hired an antique fire truck to come to our school and park behind the building, and we had a scheduled fire alarm to go off and the kids came out of the school thinking it was a real fire alarm. After they were all lined up on the blacktop, the cheerleaders came riding down on the fire truck(about 100 feet) and when it stopped we ran off and and started a cheer. Everyone was really surprised and excited. We also wore real "gear". We bought cheap little plastic firemen hats and we had a green plastic garden hose and that got alot of laughs. It was one of our best ones yet! |
