| Welcome to the 13th floor! As you make your way through the halls, you'll come upon reading some little known myths known as "superstitions". A superstition is an unreasoning fear of what is unknown, mysterious, or imaginary. On Halloween, there are certain superstitions that people believe are "unlucky". Some superstitions are actually good - if they're even true. Such as 'triskadekaphobia', which is fear of "Friday the 13th." Below are some superstitions I believe are worth mentioning. And some, I even believe. =) |
| - To predict the sex of a baby; Suspend a wedding band held by a piece of thread over the palm of the pregnant girl. If the ring swings in an oval or circular motion the baby will be a girl. If the ring swings straight the baby will be a boy. - If a bee enters your house, you will soon have a visitor. If you kill the bee, it is bad luck, or the visitor will be an unpleasant one. - Touch blue and your wish will come true. - If you say good-bye to a friend on a bridge, you will never see them again. - If a lighted candle as part of a ceremony suddenly blows out, it's a sign that evil spirits are nearby. - If a black cat walks towards you, it brings good fortune. However, if a black cat walks away from you, it brings the good fortune with it. - If your cheeks suddenly feel on fire, somebody somewhere is talking about you. - It's bad luck to pick up a coin if it's tails side up. If it's heads side up, it's good luck. - If you dream of death it's a sign of a birth; if you dream of birth it's a sign of a death. - If your right ear itches, someone is speaking good of you. If your left ear itches, someone is speaking bad about you. - If an eyelash falls out, put it on the back of your hand, make a wish and then throw if over your shoulder. If it falls off, the wish will be granted. - If the bottom of your right foot itches, you are going to take a trip. - If the palm of your right hand itches, you will soon be getting money. If it's your left palm, you will be paying out money. - It is bad luck to walk under a ladder. - It's bad luck to kill a ladybug. (You shouldn't kill one anyway! =P) - If you dream of a lizard, it is a sign you have a secret enemy. - To break a mirror means 7 years of bad luck. - An onion cut in half and placed under the bed of a sick person will draw off fever and poisons. - Put salt on the doorstep of a new house, and no evil can enter. - You'll meet a new friend if you run into a spider's web. - All wishes on shooting stars come true. - If you bite your tongue while eating, it is because you recently told a lie. - The number of X's on your right hand palm is the number of children you will have. |
