Elwell's Taffy

We were the proud owners of two Black and Tan English Shepherds in the fall of 2001 when we lost our female in a senseless accident. Maggie had been my shadow and I missed her terribly so we started looking for another ES to fill the empty spot in our hearts. We thought we would look for an older pup or adult dog. I got on the computer and we advertised in a state-wide publication but it was only when I talked to the breeder of our male dog that I got a lead on a dog that "just might" be available. She had heard about this year old female from a friend. I emailed the friend and found my "Taffy". Her owner had gotten a male and a female Farm Collie dogs and lo, and behold, they had puppies before they were a year old! He decided to just keep the male and find a home for the "sweetheart of a dog" female he called Tuffie. We finally made arrangements with a family in southwest Missouri that were going to Texas to get a puppy to bring back Tuffie as well. We were to pick her up at their house but the day before they were to leave we agree to pickup and bring to our house a 10-month old male pup that was a rescue that they also would bring from Texas. A lady from northeast Missouri would then pick up this pup later that day at our house.

The big day finally arrived! Tuffie was a doll! But I didn't like that name so I call her Taffy because she is so sweet. She fit right in! She still had milk so I would say "Taffy, roll over and let me see you tiddies" and I would gently rub them which she seemed to like. To this day, whenever I say roll over, she rolls over on her back with all four feet up in the air. She is my shadow--one step behind me wherever I go. She loves to ride on the 4-wheeler and see about the cows. She had not had much experience working cattle but she goes right in there and gathers them together and if one strays off, she is right on it, putting it back with the herd. You can take her in a pen of cattle, say "Stay with me!" and she won't bother a one of them until you tell her to.

Taffy is also a very feminine dog. She has a beautiful silky hair, black and tan with a little white on her chest and front feet with blonde feathering. She is dainty--does not like to get muddy and wet and hates thunderstorms. (My kind of girl!)

I think one of the first things I noticed about Taffy was her eye-to-eye contact. She looks you right in the eyes and I think sometime she knows what I'm going to do before I do.
