Walk - 4 beat gait begins with the left hind leg followed by the left front leg, right hind leg, right front leg

Trot - 2 beat gait  is when the left front leg and right hind leg are on the ground (Left Diagonal)  then the right front leg and left hind leg are on the ground (Right Diagonal)

 

Canter - 3 beat gait The hoof fall order on the  right lead is left hind leg, left diagonal (when the left front leg and right hind leg touch the ground briefly) and then the right front leg called the leading lead. The right lead is when the horse leads with the right when circling to the right the left lead is when the horse leads with the left when circling to the left. Wrong lead is when a horse leads with the outside front leg and makes a "false" lead (ex. When the horse leads with right front leg when circling to the left).

 

Gallop - 4 beat gait but there are a variations in the order according to the horses speed. Right front leg leading the order of hoof fall is: left hind leg, right hind leg, left font leg, right front leg, followed by a period of full suspension with all feet off the ground.

Pacing - 2 beat gait the legs move in side pairs (left front leg and left hind leg then the right front leg and right hind leg).

Tolt - Found in the Iceland Horse, a 4 beat running walk.
