--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You may have some of these items in your homes, no longer in use. You may wish to purchase and donate an item. Donated dollars could help buy items. Could your employer help? Other businesses? What about friends who work for movers, liquidators, convention centers or do clean outs that may come across items the town needs?  Are you involved in a community interest group?

Fulfilling school and town needs at your next fundraiser would be a much appreciated endeavor! Businesses – when you upgrade or remodel, don’t pay someone to take the items away – take a tax deduction instead by donating the usable items to your local schools or town offices!

Do you have something that you’re parting with that is not listed here? Charity begins at home and Holbrook is our home! Offer your item to any of the town or school offices.

Brainstorm away! I think if we use our ingenuity we can find the resources to fulfill the wishes posted here. Let’s do our best to help our schools and town!

Thank you for visiting!

From Ask a CPA on boston.com:

Q: Can I deduct expenses paid for school supplies and equipment that I donated to my son's public school? —John, Berlin

The following answer was provided by Mark Misselbeck, CPA, Levine Katz Nannis & Solomon PC, Needham.

A: Payments for supplies and goods as a volunteer or donated to a qualified organization (which a public school would be - a private school might not be) is the same as a cash donation. You should claim them with your other donations on Sch. A. If they amounted to more than $ 250 in a single donation, you would need a written acknowledgment of the amount and a statement to the effect that nothing of value was given back to you by the organization.
