Cold high of 24F. 2nd: Cold low 9F this morning, coldest of season so far 6th: First respectable snow of season & first of 2002, 4.0" fell. Precip began as sleet. 7th: Another 0.5" snow overnight makes storm total 4.5" 9th: Much milder high 52F melted most of the snow, strong SW winds 10th: Very mild and windy again 13th: Strong NW winds gusting to 30 mph 17th: Windy again with W wind gusting 30 mph 18th: ANOTHER windy day, again strong W winds, gusts 30+ mph. 19th: Light snow on and off all day. Less than expected, still 3.0" accumulated. Snow was mixed with light sleet, freezing rain and freezing drizzle this afternoon. 23rd: Very mild high 61F. 24th: Moderate rain 5-11am .54" fell, very mild temperatures again 26th: Milder high 56F and ample sunshine. 27th: Very mild high 64F. 28th: Another very mild day, even warmer high 67F. 29th: Same as yesterday, very mild, again high 67F (even with more clouds) 30th: Again mild all day. Light rain this afternoon/evening .23" fell. 31st: Only slightly cooler, light rain/drizzle overnight, drizzle and fog all day. COMMENTS: January 2002 was a VERY mild January with an mean monthly temperature of 37.0F. This is about 10 degrees above average. Precipitation measured 1.88", which makes it the 6th consecutive below-average month, and the 5th straight below 2".
