RULES AND REGULATIONS
If it’s not in the rules, Don’t Do It!
Full Size Rules – no jeeps,
trucks (rancheros, el caminos, considered trucks), convertibles, imperials, no
carryalls, hearse, limos or imperial sub frames. Pre-ran cars and suicide lincolns allowed, built to the rules.
Preparation:
- All glass, plastic and
pot metal must be removed. Nothing
may remain in the bottom of the doors or trunks. All outside hardware must be removed (door handles, mirrors,
chrome, molding, screws, fiber glass, etc.)
- No added weight to the
car. No packing the frames,
trunks, doors or under floor decking.
- Front seats must be
securely mounted to the floor and must have seat belts. Inner padding on driver’s door is
optional.
- Any flammable materials
inside the car must be removed except safety padding and seat.
- No anti-freeze or other
cooling additives etc. allowed.
- A pipe or bar behind
(max 6” O.D.) the seat is mandatory.
An 8” by 8” plate at the end of the pipe may be welded to the
interior of the car behind the seat.
An optional pipe may be put in the front were the dashboard was
located, in between the front door posts.
These must be welded around the plate only, no bolting them in
place is allowed, no uprights may be attached from the cross pipes to the
floor or frame. You may weld a
connecting pipe on the inside of the driver and passenger doors from front
pipe to rear pipe for safety.
- Note on 2 door cars
only: You may have larger plate
welded to end of door bar. It may
not exceed 10” wide by 14” long and cannot exceed 10” past door seam to
rear of car.
- On non full post cars
you may weld one 4” max o.d. pipe to cross bar behind seat. It may have no more than a 6” plate
welded on the end that will be bolted to the roof of the car.
- Patching sheet metal to
mount equipment necessary to run is allowed. Must use sheet metal to patch with.
Fuel Pumps:
- Electric fuel pumps are
allowed. Must have separate switch
within driver’s reach and be labeled clearly.
Tires:
- Any 15” tire. You may tube, screw or glue tire inside
of tire. No foreign material
(water, foam, concrete, etc.) inside of tire. Only air must be used to inflate your tire.
- You may weld on valve
stem protectors.
- No paddles or tractor
lugs.
Brakes:
- All cars must exhibit
the ability to stop before entering the arena. If a car looses its braking ability it will be subject to
disqualification.
Steering:
- Tie rods and steering
shaft can be altered.
Engines and Rear Ends:
- Any engine and
transmission combination may be used in any car but must be mounted within
4” of the original mount and must be mounted securely. You may cut a hole in the firewall to
accommodate the engine and distributor within reason. However it must be covered to prevent a
fire hazard.
- Holes left in the
firewall from removing the dash and heater must be covered to prevent fire
hazards.
- Patching holes is for
safety not reinforcement. If
patching rust holes you may use sheet metal only.
- Motor mounts may be
welded; transmission and motors may be chained.
- You may use any type of
rear end as long as it has no more than 5 lugs.
Body Welding
- Only ½” or less rolled
steel or 4” by 4” by ¼” plates may be used for seam welding. Must have 4” spacing (weld 4” leave
4”).
- Chain may be used with
2 chains per seam.
- #9 wire may be used in
place of chain, only 6 strands may be twisted together and 2 per
seam. Doors, trunk & wagon
gate only. No #9 wire in any
window.
Securing:
- Only one of the
following (welding or bolting chains or #9 wire) must be used to secure
your hood and trunk. #9 wire may
only be used in place of chain where chaining is allowed. The hood may be welded to sheet metal
only.
Doors and windows:
- Doors may be
welded. All EXTERIOR door seams
may be welded OR you may chain or use #9 wire at least twice per
seam. If chaining or wiring, none
may go thru or around the frame.
- A protective bar may be
placed on the driver’s exterior door.
It cannot extend more than 6” past the drivers’ door seam on either
side. You may connect your inside
cowl pipe and backseat pipe on driver and passenger doors.
- You can have #9 wire in
two separate places per opening of rear windows only.
- A maximum of 2 bars
running from the outside top of roof down to the cowl centered on the
front window is mandatory.
- Hoods must be bolted or
chained & must be opened for inspection. Bolted or chained with no more than 4 bolts or 4 chains.
Welding:
- No inner seam welding
under body, under hood or under truck.
All inner panels must be removed from station wagons.
- A seam runs from one
corner to another and is not continuous (weld 4” leave 4”).
- The largest gap that
you may fill is ½”.
- No stacking of filler
in any seams or gap.
- No painting or
undercoating may be used underneath the car, especially the frame, or
automatic disqualification with NO REFUND.
Bolting:
- Instead of welding your
trunk to secure it you must use at least 6 but no more than 8 bolts with
4” washers.
- No bolts may go
through, around or touch the frame or uni-body except core support may go
from top of frame through hood.
- Bolts may not exceed ¾”
in diameter or 8” in length except core support.
- Washers may not exceed
4” in diameter on trunk and 6” diameter for hood.
- The tailgate of a
station wagon will be treated as a trunk.
- Stock body mounts only
in stock location.
- No extra body mounts or
bolts will be allowed.
- Hood bolted with no
more than 4 bolts ¾” diameter with 6” diameter washers, not to go through
frame except the core support bolt which can go through the top of the
frame and through hood. No
welding.
Chains or #9 wire:
- You may use on the rear
bumper 1” by ¼” thick flat strap welded from the trunk lid to the chrome
of the bumper. No more than 2 of
these may be used on the rear bumper.
It may only be welded up to 6” on the trunk lid.
Bumpers:
- Stock O.E.M. bumpers
passenger car bumpers only.
- Bumpers may be cut so
they do not smash into the tires during the event.
- Bumpers may be chained
in two or less places and attached to frame to hold bumper on.
- Bumpers may be flipped,
trimmed or folded and may weld fold together.
- Bumpers to brackets and
brackets to frame may be welded.
- Compression bumpers may
be drained, slid back into the shock and welded fully with no other
material added.
- No chrome may be welded
to the body.
Frame:
- Front frame seams may
be welded from A-arms forward top and bottom with no added metal.
- Do not weld frame
anywhere except where stated. If
it’s not in the rules don’t weld it or you will be subject to
disqualification with NO REFUND.
Radiators & Radiator Supports:
- Radiators must stay in
the stock position (no added water capacity).
- No antifreeze or other
added coolants of any kind may be used.
- Lower radiator support
body mount bushings may be removed and replaced with up to a ¾” bolt from
top of frame through hood.
Transmission Coolers:
- Transmission coolers
will be allowed.
- Coolers must be secure
in back seat area.
- Metal, steel braided or
high-pressure lines and fittings must be used.
- Fans on coolers are
permitted.
- Overall safety will be
determined by officials at time of inspection.
Gas Tanks:
- Original gas tank must
be removed from under car.
- Replacement gas tank
must be some sort of steel, pony keg, jerry can, boat tank, etc. No full size kegs.
- Gas tank must be bolted
down behind drivers seat and covered with a non-flammable shield.
Battery:
- Any automotive battery
legal (2 maximum).
- Battery or batteries
must be securely mounted on passenger floorboard and will be covered with
a non-flammable material.
Air Cleaners:
- You must have an air
cleaner on the car at all times during the event.
- No starting fluid will be allowed inside
the car.
Cut Outs:
- Cut outs over the wheel
wells are legal.
- Cut outs may be folded
over.
- No welding of the cut
outs is allowed.
- Cut outs must not have
more than (4) ¼” bolts on running seam.
Trailer Hitches:
- Trailer hitches and
framework must be removed.
Suspension:
- No other means other
than tires and spring spacers may be used to raise the cars suspension.
- No adding
reinforcements to the suspension or steering parts except where stated.
- No putting leaf springs
on top of the axle and no leaf spring conversions from coils.
- No welding or duck
taping of leaf springs will be allowed.
- You may weld coil
springs to the frame so they do not fall out (no filler may be used).
- You may not clamp the
shocks. No solid suspension.
- Station wagons and leaf
spring cars must have factory leaf springs with factory stagger. No more than 9 leaf springs per
side. No more than 4 clamps per
side, no welding or duck taping.
Springs must be of passenger car origin. NO TRUCK LEAF SPRINGS ALLOWED.
- No air shocks may be
used.
- Trailing arms on non
leaf spring cars may be shortened and lengthened.
- Suspension must work.
- One chain or cable per
side allowed on wagons or sedans over the hump & around rear end.
- Sway bars may be left
on but not bent or welded on A frame.
Compact Rules – any car 104” or less, trucks 106” or
less, no mini vans.
- Suspension - no more
than 5 leaf springs and 2 clamps per side. No welding or duck taping.
- Cab on pick up must be
secured to frame.
- Fuel tanks must be
secured to the front of the pick up bed.
- All full size rules
apply.
