THE CHURCH OF GOLD

Libertarian Politics

"I was dealing with reality for a change; how ironically pathetic that it felt so strange!" Kevin Lyon's "Neo-Tech Man Rap."
Several years ago, Harry attended the Massachusetts Libertarian Convention. He was a "card carrying member" of the National Libertarian Party. Now he has to decide if continuing such political involvement makes sense. Harry finds he has to beware that his "True Believer" impulse, and enjoyment of working with bright people of good will might keep him so busy with "projects" that he doesn't get his own "work" (including keeping these web pages up to date) may be neglected.

Harry spent hundreds of dollars (to him a lot) of his own money to support the Harry Browne for President campaign. Harry has been distressed to discover how little mutual respect Libertarians and Objectivists show each other.

Actually, Browne's campaign was somewhat ironic. One of his earliest best sellers, How I Found Freedom in an Unfree World, was an early influence on everyone from Neo-Tech to Terra Libra. In it, Browne spoke of avoiding any kind of involvement with the government, as a primary tool for preserving one's own freedom. Harry still re-reads the book, for a boost of extra inspiration, every few years. It's like visiting with an old friend.
