International Trichotillomania Day is a special day dedicated to ALL people who have suffered from this disorder. Do a little something special for yourself, no matter where you are or how you feel about this aspect of your life. Celebrate if you've had success and are pull free!!! Celebrate if you accept your pulling and do your best as you are!!! Celebrate if you haven't had any success at all, because YOU especially, DESERVE IT!

No one can say trichotillomania is easy or understandable. I have seen an incredible amount of theories and studies in the last year. Everybody can't be right and everybody can't be wrong. I have a feeling TTM will never be understood, there will never be a magic pill. Whatever TTM is, it just IS. As individuals, we must find our own methods of dealing with and/or fighting TTM. The wonderful thing is, that we can do it together. No one can possibly understand this who hasn't felt that "urge" for themselves. Just talking about TTM with others can be incredibly theraputic. Work together, despite differences in opinions, to support eachother. Read all you can and figure out what works for YOU.

My personal hope for International Trichotillomania Day is not that we will all stop pulling out our hair. I would rather that we accept ourselves with this disorder as a part of who we are. I'm not saying to give up and quit trying to stop, but to be able to look in the mirror and feel the same way about ourselves as if we stopped 5 years ago, yesterday, today, tomorrow, or never. Whether or not you stop pulling, the experience will last you a lifetime. I can PROMISE you two things: 1)Your hair is ALL going to fall out someday anyway. 2)Your attitude in life defines how you lived it, regardless of circumstances, health, wealth, achievements or failures.

I used to have a few links to TTM sites, but they seem to change faster than I can keep up. I started this page when a search engine would only bring up 4-5 sites. However, since most search engines/pages I have tried recently will bring up LOTS of info, I wish you well in your journey!!!

If you would like to know of other TTMers to email or chat with, please view the guestbook. There are many entries from people looking for support and to share ideas. Please add your name and email address, as well!

Dagmar
