I'm finally done with my (third) first quarter of college. I guess that'd be (fourth) first quarter if you count the year of Spanish I took in high school. I think I'll be the oldest person every to never have had a real job yet. But as long as I keep getting free or reduced tuition, I'll keep going. So Sunday I took the train to Eugene to visit my aunts and uncle. Evidently the train hasn't been on time in more than a year. And people wonder why Amtrack is losing money. Then it was over to Penny's at the coast with the parents. We tried to visit the very nifty and free Hatfield Marine Science Center, but alas and alack it is now closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. So we went shopping on the bayfront instead.

Well, isn't it nice that the madness of the holidays is over! Oh, wait, I should say the madness of Christmas or else Bill O'Rielly might boycott my webpage. Well, like I care. Absolutely fabulous books I'm reading for my independent study on women's history inclue Laurel Thatcher Ulrich's A Midwife's Tale: The Life of Martha Ballard, Based on Her Diary, 1785 - 1812 and Betty Friedan's Classic The Feminine Mystique. The books for the seminar on Race, Violence, and Vigilantism in the Southeast and Southwest between 1880 and 1920 have also been good so far: John Dollard's Caste and Class in a Southern Town and Leon F. Litwack's Trouble in Mind.

Well, stumbling upon my husband viewing my page here last night, I decided that since someone actually visits, it would be in good form to update. So here is an update. I'm loving my classes. Books I've enjoyed recently have been Florence Kelley and the Nation's Work by Kathryn Kish Sklar and Harriet Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin, which if a bit sappy at times was still a good read. Well, better go get ready for that big 26 (although my work schedule prevents the celebration from occuring until Saturday). Woo hoo!
